Given the abysmal form during the run-ins the the majority of the last few seasons, I think we need to cautious. I just can't see us continuing our stuning form of the last 5-6 weeks through to the end of the season. When we were rubbish early this season I was hopeful that it would work out well, and now that we are alm,ost there I am worried we will throw it away.
I think we can only go with what's before us, rather than what has happened before and at the moment we are the premier league's top form team anyway, it looks like the Spuds and the Pool are the bottlers this season . .
It's best to look forward and as it stands we have a good chance here of turning a potentially awful season into something that might set us up for a successful season next year. It's been a long time since we saw any success and I am hopeful that the current form can be maintained into 12/13.
I think this is what I take from this as well. When we all look back at the last 7 or 8 years, we see something different as the reason for not winning, maybe it was because of a planned austerity, maybe it was rebuilding the club to be focused on youth, maybe because of injuries, or a misjudgement by the club on transfers and wages, plain bad luck, or a combination of those in different measures. In any case one thing we can agree on, is that there is nothing we can do now to go back and change that record. What we do from here is the important thing and we are starting to see signs that our players are good enough to compete with the best (even if we doubted it before). A few players stepping up, a couple of signings and a bit of luck, who knows what we can achieve.
It seems to be the case, looking back, that our worst runs in recent times have coincided with either a) a serious glut of injuries or b) players who have yet to bed in having to try and play together. Hopefully with a couple of quality additions, these periods will not happen next season and if they do, for far shorter periods of time. Now we are close to full strength and gelling nicely our quality is plain to see and hopefully we maintain the right attitude and won't get complacent.
Whatever happens in the last 8 games we are not going to finish higher than 3rd place, if we're lucky. More likely it will be a 4th or 5th place finish. Remember when we used to win things? Those were the days.
Great positive attitude there, last season we fell away because our moral had been hit by us not being able to keep up with man utd, but this year we have something to fight for in 3rd place and i doubt spurs or chelsea will go away so we will have to be on top form until the end of the season and we still have 2 huge games against man city and chelsea, i honestly don't understand why some fans are so downbeat when we are in such a good run and looking like the favourites for 3rd place, what are you actually like when we are in a bad run of form?
Be careful, they get very irritated if you say they are doing that. They consider themselves enlightened. "The end of the world is coming. Oh woe, woe and thrice woe, the end is nigh!"
