Why does Barton need to take a pay cut?

  1. Can some one give me a reason why Barton needs to take a pay cut?

Our best player, the most creative, we haven't won a single game without him, we're basically **** without Barton!

He's a dedicated player, passionate, he wants to stay here!! He actually said he'd like to end his career here.

    However, he is a footballer.

I'll tell you what, when Xisco gets his spaniard arse away from the club, offer Barton Xisco's wages? 67,000 grand a week was it?

Give him that, atleast Barton will give more than that back!! I can't believe this club (the board and fat ****) would have taken 5 million for Barton in the Jan transfer window. Are they ****ing stupid?

Barton has probably made half of our overall total goals ATLEAST. He may not get all the assists as he may not get the last touch before the goal scorer knocks it in, but it's been through his creativity and his deliveries that we've scored alot of our goals.

We shouldn't offer him a 5 year contract, but we shouldn't make him take a pay cut. If we lose him, i have doubts about our survival next season. Tiote's overall quality may look easier on the eye, but Barton's our best and more vital player.

Because we now have a wage cap in place that is lower than his current wage. <ok>

NUFC are currently in a state of transition, Barton's contract does not fit in with the new model, therefore if he wants to stay he'll have to take a pay cut, simple really

Sorry but the days of throwing money at players, regardless of performance on the pitch, has long gone.

NUFC need to be sensible and have a strong business model in the current climate, something Pompey didn't do

All of the above. If one gets more than the wage cap another will want to and so on and so on. We have a financial model to stick to, if not the club will be back in serious poo before we know it.

Also this couldn't have gone in the other Barton contract thread which has obviously inspired this one?

  10. We'll be in financial poo if we give one player 17 grand more a week than everyone else?

I tell you what mate, if we lose Barton, we'll be losing much more than he's earning in wages. All that extra money saved from the wage cap will do us **** all good if we're relegated.

No wins without Barton says it all. We need him, simple as.

Read the rest of the post Tash, if we do it for one everyone will want to get more than the wage cap so it won't just be 17k, it will set a precident. All the players will be thinking "I've done well this season why can't I earn more than what I do now." It's worked at Arsenal for years, if they got too big for their boots Arsene got rid of them. One player is not bigger than the club.

  13. One player is not bigger than the club, but the team is **** all without Barton. I see what you're saying, but i think highly of our players, and i don't think any of them will throw a paddy if Barton is earning more than them.

    Andy Carroll? Anyone?

That's a very blinkered view, if a Geordie is going to do the off for money after he's claimed he's local lad, local team, number 9 blah blah blah I think you're being very niave to think players like most people not just in football are motivated by money.

  15. They're not just motivated by money. Yes players want their wages, but i wouldn't be turning up for matches if i thought our players were in it for the money and nothing else.

Certain players are money grubbing ****s, but that doesn't mean they all are, and just because a player we thought was the most in love with the club ended up being nothing but a gold digger, doesn't mean he's an example for the rest of our squad.

You may call it blind faith if you want, i don't care, but i wouldn't go to matches if i didn't think most of our players loved playing for this club. That's why it pained me to say i support the team during the 08/09 season, because most of our team were ****ing ****s.

But why were they like that in 08/09 season? Because they were overpaid tossers, this won't happen if we have a wage structure in place, they'll go somewhere where they will be overpaid.
