http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17501303 I like how he makes winning 6 out of the last 8 sound so easy. If you did that every 8 games you'd win the league most years even if you lost the other 2. I think if Arsenal win 5 and lose 3 of the last 8 we'll get 3rd. Would give us 73 points. 15 points out of 24 is still a tough task though.
Coz we don't have to play Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Newcastle in those last 8 games.
I have repeatedly said he hasn't used the squad properly and the players are tired as they have basically played every game they are fit for. Lennon's injury has meant that 2 or 3 players get shifted about as he won't play GDS or Kranjcar on the right for some reason.
Can't argue with that ammaar! Precisely the reason harry leaving wouldnt be a bad thing if the replacement is right! We have a good squad but tactics are non existent! His constant putting players out of position and changing formations infuriates me. Loss of Lennon hurt us big time
i reckon they have one more game to sort themselves out . Another performance like their last five and its goodnight vienna. If they dont , i cant see them seriously challenging for 3rd. Of course , this also assumes we dont start to play in our old lackadaisical way again . ONE MORE GAME HARRY ! . then its not gonna happen .
He doesn't learn when it goes wrong though! You could see in the derby he didn't have a clue what to do! Every arsenal fan that slagged off Wenger this season should eat humble pie and realise how lucky you are
Because you've lost 3 out of 4 and with it all of your momentum. Also it looks like Spurs have some internal confidence issues over the loyalty of Redknapp, their performances and whilst no fault of their own, I think the Muamba incident will also have affected the Spurs players.
Yeah, but instead you dropped points to teams like Stoke and Everton, so please don't act like it's only the 'big boys' you've been struggling against, although teams like Everton and Stoke are tough teams, you still should have been able to beat them after you're slump against the big boys.
That's like saying "Usain Bolt can run fast so why can't I"? You are THFC & we are AFC. That's why not.
Superal - I have no idea why Redknapp changed a winning formula. You were playing the best football and winning plenty of games, then all of a sudden he changes things. WTF ?? But rest assured, Wenger is no better tactically, he is completely dire when it comes to tactics. After the worst start for 58 years ... I don't think you can call people mad for calling for Wenger's head. All he has done in my opinion is placate them - we should NEVER have been in that position in the first place. we took 2 steps back and 2 steps forward - back where we started.
Couldn't disagree more. The recent run does not negate the stupid errors that cost us any chance of a successful season. This season - no matter what happens - is a disappointment. No trophies, our worst start in over 50 years, and out of every trophy in Feb. There is still a real chance we will finish below Spurs too. Not good, but at least we have a chance of finishing well and salvaging some pride.
Look back before your good run - you were nearly as bad. I've never seen any evidence for 'momentum' in any sport, apart from the blathering of the 'experts'. If you are good enough to win 20+ matches in a season, and you get the right run of teams then seven in a row isn't unreasonable to come up by chance, especially if the opponents miss a hatful of chances (Liverpool) or the Ref disallows the equalising goal (Everton). Assuming all three teams are of equal standard, the most likely order now is Arsenal, Spurs Chelsea, because the three extra points you have slightly more than makes up for the harder run in. But if we are actually the best of the three we should do enough to come third.
I've got some sympathy with Redknapp here: His favoured 4411 only really works if Van der Vaart is playing and the wingers are high quality and very fast and soak up double marking, otherwise the best teams overwhelm our central midfield. We've got no real back-up for Bale and Lennon and if they are missing it is almost essential to change the formation. Thrashing a weakened Newcastle playing 442 led us astray I think - we looked shocking at the Emirates trying to play the same way against a team with a proper midfield. As far as I can see Arsenal play essentially the same system whatever the personnel and they have reasonably like-for-like back up to make it work. But try a few matches without RVP and it might then be Wenger who struggles for a winning formula
I didn't say that confidence didn't matter only that 'momentum' didn't. They are not the same thing. For example in the matches since the 5-2 Spurs have actually played pretty well except in front of goal and I don't think our confidence will have suffered. Arsenal's confidence may well have been improved by the 5-2 but you were hardly convincing against Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton despite winning all three. If I had time I'd like to do some statistics on PL football to see how far away the results are from pure chance, taking into account that some teams are better than others. My money would be on no momentum effect at all - basically the best teams win more often because they are better. There may be some unintentional bias from Refs too. There is also some interesting recent research across a number of sports that teams playing in red do better (and that Refs are biased towards them)!
Its going to be a tough run in. Spurs can still get third or fourth but they have to start playing well to do so. They don't have the fight to grind out wins, it's a team full petulant crybabies. We know full well that both Gallas and Adebayor are not the guys you need when the 'going gets tough'. Van der Vaart has a history of stroppy behaviour, Jermaine Defoe is constantly moaning about something.
