Living in Swindon, its been interesting of late - the positivity around their team has been quite refreshing I think - they are only L2, but the fans have taken PDC to their hearts and the town will be almost deserted tomorrow when they fight Chesterfield in the Mickey Mouse Cup final. It seems a contrast to the doom and gloom we experience - we are miserable about the fear of getting to the very league they so desperately want to be in. Its a funny old game....
we fear going into the league they want to be in because were in a league they can only dream of, we must and will stay up KEEP THE FAITH
'were in a league they can only dream of' Wouldn't surprise me if they went straight through L1 into the Championship next season.
Shiny, they made it to the premier league in 1990 but then got relegated to league 1 by the League before they played a game for under the counter payments (the punishment was too harsh)...
PoB - that wasn't the only time they were treated harshly - they beat Arsenal in 1969 to lift the league cup - only for the FA to rush through a rule banning clubs outside the top tier from competing in Europe. Swindon were Div 3 at the time. A European comp without Arsenal was unthinkable - so it was sorted. The Italians felt that to be unfair, so they created the Anglo-Italian cup - remember that?
Appointing PDC was a gamble, but it's paid off big time. They may lose him in the summer to West Ham if Allardyce does not get them up.
Thats still pretty likely, even if Big Sam DOES get them up.... I do think however that like Martin O'Neill at Wycombe and then Norwich that he won't leave Swindon until he thinks he has finished what he started...
