Not the best in terms of quality but quite a nice competitive card at Newbury today.

In particular, the Mares Novices' Hurdle Finale looks a good little race. Kentford Grey Lady looks to be on a fair mark but coming here after running at Cheltenham isn't ideal and there are a couple of others that look well treated as well. I could make a case for a few but at the prices I'll side with Tante Sissi (8/1) and Miss Milborne (16/1). Also, does anybody know why Florafern flopped on her penultimate start? She could be very nicely handicapped judged on her other two starts.

The chase race looks far less competitive and I like How's Business though it's hardly original.

In the 3.40 I do like Mon Parrain but I'm not convinced he wants 3m2f. Of the others, there is little to recommend them with the exception of Ikorodu Road who looks to be going in the right direction. I'll take him to outstay the favourite, though I'd like to see Mon Parrain absolutely hose up. We need another top class staying chaser.

Hellfire Club looks the best of a bad bunch in the 4.15 and I think it is worth opposing Snake Eyes with the impressive winner Utopian. The Henderson horse might be a good un but it's plenty short enough. Utopian looked very smart last time and has good form in France too when beating Ut De Sivola. 11/4 looks worth a chance.

I backed Sooraah earlier in the week and the more I look at the race the more confident I am. If she gets the luck in running I can see her winning nicely in this race. Happy with the price I got too!!

In the Spring Cup I am with Gatepost who I think is the classiest horse in the field and in the Hever I am with Medicean Man, the one horse in the race that I think conditions are perfect for. Both horses are taken on trust in these valuable heats.

Add in a line of S6 and I could be very happy this evening!!

Apparently Florafern bled at Ludlow on her penultimate start, hence why she flopped. Shame Pricewise has destroyed her price (yet again), but I think 8s is still worth chancing.

Few Fancies for Today Done in an E/W Lucky 15

    3.05 Gowran Cavite Beta 14/1
Course and Distance winner and ran well in an arguably more competitive handicap at Leopardstown LTO so should find this class and trip more to his liking. I think 14's on offer at the moment is a massive price especially if the ground dries out a little bit more this afternoon.

    3.25 Lingfield Premio Loco 6/1
Arguably the class horse in the race and has an excellent record at the track. Race could be run to suit and surely worth a crack at this trip again and in a race he nearly won 3 years ago.

    3.40 Newbury Ikodoru Road 5/1
Looks to be an improving stayer or at least has improved significantly since being stepped up to 3 miles and beyond and still could be well handicapped and holds a number of these on recent runs.

    2.40 Newbury Miss Milborne 12/1
Weighted to go close to the favourite in this race on a recent run. Holds a number of other rivals on various lines of form. Better ground today should also suit. Looks to have a live chance in this and a value E/W selection against the Fav

I don't pretend to understand how the great Pricewise thinks, but I must admit to being a bit confused by this pick. Last time out she beat 2 horses rated 105 and 109 by small margins (getting 6lbs from the 109 rated horse)

I think the top one is in a different parish to these. If she's over her Cheltenham exertions she has to take this

Oddy, I agree that KGL is the best horse in the race, but I do think we have some potentially well handicapped horses against her, I think Tante Sissi is a fair rival whilst I also think Heather Royal is nicely weighted. I guess Pricewise thinks the two he put forward are well handicapped too. Good little race.

Good afternoon guys and girls, what a beautiful spring day when, the racing today has a look of a preseason friendly with NH coming to the end of its season and the flat starting to spark into life. That said there seems to be a little bit of value in a couple that have taken my eye bot of which have bee nibbled in the market, my selections are one on the flat and one over the jumps, in the winter Derby at Lingfield my selection is SOORAH at 5/1 and my NAP for the day is GALAXY ROCK 6/1 who runs in the 4.25 BANGOR, was one of the stables big fancies to do well chasing this year, however, he returns to hurdles today which could be a prep race for his return to chaisng next week at Sandown. On ratings he is more than capable of winning this with ease, it just depends how much the owners/trainer want to win as opposed to a confidence/fitness thing.

On a final note good luck to Sunderland today who take on Sticks QPR, im predicting a win for Sunderland, however, they will have one eye on the cup replay against Everton on Tuesday and QPR could do a smash and grab like they did against Liverpool midweek, and the return of Ferdinand and Djbril Cisse adds to the occasion, HAWAY THE LADS

Sorry to tell the backers of Cavite Beta, Florafern and Soorah that they are among my selections for the day and therefore doomed to ignominious failure.

Others I have placed my curse on today include, a longer prices than merited in my book Vivacious Vivienne in the Winter Derby, 16's earlier on all gone now. (in which I couldn't resist 66's for Lyssio); Equation of Time at 25's in the 2.25; Blue Jack at 20/1 in the 2.55; and A Little Swifter at 20's in the Mares Hurdle at Newbury.

Good luck to all my fellow forumites today. Off for a haircut, bite of lunch and a beer in the sun.

I like Crown Dependency in the 2-25 at lingfield. Showed some promise last year and the yard always said they thought he'd be better as a 3 year old so here's the chance to show it.

afternoon all-cracking day outside so a day in the beer garden for me!!in the 4.45 at gowran park i think dont tell purty has a cracking ew chance and is still ahead of the handicapper after her last win at punchy town.

jesus the flat season is starting back at the curragh tomorrow.i'm more of a jumps man but find it easier picking winners on the flat.i find flat racing is a bit more 'elitist'and doesnt attract the average joe so in the way national hunt racing does-there are way to many flat race meetings to keep up with as well.what is the general consenus on 606,jumps or flat or both??

20/1 shot beats a 20/1 shot - places paid 2.70 and 5.00 respectively <laugh> and people talk about wanting a tote monopoly!
