We are back in, and favourites to get, Villareal's Rossi. Apparently, Villareal need money, urgently and Rossi could be available for as little as £10mm. Having seen him play several times over here, he looks like a good bet. But, it IS Talkshite so......

I'm surprised to find you heard any 'programme' between the ads, the sponsored link into ads, the sponsored competitions, the wind ups, the sponsored bookies spots and the ads. Come to think of it, unfounded speculation isn't much of a quality programme really. Having said that, Hawksbee and Jacobs are worth listening to.

  6. I was listening to Talkshite in the week, and Stan Collymore, with absolute conviction, told the audience that Spurs are too weak mentally to do anything other than finish 3rd, and that both Arsenal and Chelsea will finish above us, because (to use his words) both teams "have been here before." Of course, he failed to explain how that explains Liverpool struggling to hold onto 7th spot.

If we manage to finish 3rd, I am going to commission an artist to have Collymore's face painted onto the enamel surface of my local boozer's old-style bogs, so that all the punters can piss on him. In fact, I might have that done, regardless.

Collymore is mentally unstable, i follow him on Twitter and even from that you can tell he isn't right in the head.

Before he got injured, he was pretty prolific over here. So he shouldn't have too much trouble with Premiership defences the way they are at the moment. Assuming that he fully recovers from injury, and depending on the price, we could do a worse.

Don't want us to sign us a striker because he isn't good at defending set pieces? <doh>

Absolutely. I don't think a team can have the luxury of having a striker who does nothing but score ... unless he is so completely prolific that you can guarantee winning every match 5-4. Since there is no such striker (certainly not one available to Spurs) you need a team player who scores but also contributes in defence. Having Defoe for example is all very well, but someone like Ade also offers more all over the pitch (and if you say Defoe is a better finisher, he'd have to be a very very much better finisher to offset the greater contribution of other strikers). Basically these days most players need to be much more rounded... a full back has to be able to function as a winger etc.

i agree that players have to contribute more but to not want a striker of the calibre of Rossi because he might not be good at defending set pieces is absolute bollocks to me.

Strikers job is to score. If we had one that did that this season then we would be 3rd still.

Just what they used to say about Jimmy Greaves, "oh, he doesn't do anything but score goals" well, I'm sorry, unless I'm missing something, firstly that's exactly what we need at the moment, and also, when all the talking is done, the team that scores the most goals, wins the game. So long as the guy can bang in 20+ per season, let the other 10 take care of most of the defending.

All Darren Bent does is score goals and I certainly wouldn't want him back.
Rossi seems like a more complete player to me though and I'm pretty sure that he's capable of playing in our current system.

Has he even returned from his injury yet?
Strange that there are rumours about him being offloaded, if he's not even back to full fitness.

It was a serious injury. I have qualified it by saying that assuming he fully recovers from injury. And I don't see Bent scoring too many goals at the moment. The difference being that Bent is thick & lazy.

True. But I think he had dried up somewhat before the injury, anyway.
