We have not played well all season. We have sold our best players. We can not string results together. We have had injuries in key positions. We have had to cope with a new manager. We have spent all our money on the East Stand we do not own. We have only won 3 games in the last 10 games. We do not deserve promotion in any way... Yet... We are only 6 pts off the playoff's with 8 to go...
Says a lot about the managerial abilities of Simon Grayson and Neil Warnock, if you ask me. Getting players who'd otherwise be in 14th or 15th into a promotion-chasing position. Still, I can't forsee us getting enough out of our remaining games to make up those six points. Look at the teams above and below us with games in hand and we should be thankful for a top half finish, just like we all said we'd be during the summer.
I actually said playoffs pushing for autos last summer. But then we sold Max Gradel, and I changed my mind.
During the summer when everything looked against us, I was convinced we'd be scrapping around in midtable. Although after the Newcastle pre-season friendly, McCormack, Clayton, Gradel, Howson and Snodgrass were all looking super, and I did predict on here that we'd get 4th place. Some poor decisions and two key player sales later, reality struck and I reverted to my summer prognosis.
Even Paynter scored against Newcastle. Everything was looking so rosy. Then they decided to not show up against Southampton.
He made their whole midfield and defence look like amateurs, cut through them like a hot knife through butter.
We don't deserve it, it shouldn't happen, not after the way we have played this season... But.... We are going to make the playoff's, I hope after this weekend and the disallowed goal/saved penalty that your all starting to believe it. If i was a West Ham fan i would be bricking it right now. Simply put it's our time no matter how hard we try to avoid it. PS: Get your checkbook out Uncle Ken because that £7 million will need to be paid back
