You can call me old-fashioned, but I prefer it when the manager is free to pick the team.

Absolutely, it's like people have forgotten the 4 year plan already. That or two faced......can't have Briatore do it but I can boo and make the change cos I know better!

Simple question. Do any of you think the booing helped the rest of the team?

If Joey is respected by his peers then NO
    If not then YES

personally I dont think it helps the team

Eamon I often see sense in a lot of your post (including those that are overtly sarcastic and/or intentionally humorous) but you have let yourself down with that post. The SWP reference is arrogant garbage, out of context and completely fails to appreciate the complex nature of what led to the culmination in Barton being booed.

If SWP played on Wednesday and was turned in the type of amateur performance he has consistently done while with us he would 100% also have been booed if eventually subbed whilat we were losing 2-0. It was an extreme circumstance that led to the boos and a culmination of months of frustration. Lots of people have been moaning about Barton for a long time but that was the first time booing like that has occurred.

The arrogant part of your post comes in alluding to the boos boys in some way having a lower level of intelligence.

To make such a broad statement like this it seems that you are refferring to intelligence in the traditional sense of IQ, qualifications and job title. I think that is a week and irrelevant link in the context of booing Barton. Harry Redknapp by his own admission is not what you would necessarily call intelligent but he has a lot more knowledge about football than an investment banker or a brain surgeon. I personally dont think you can distinguish boo boys based on intelligence.

On Wednesday I came into the category of ‘boo boy’ and I am certain that I do not fall into this sub category of lower intelligence that you group the boo boys into. I would say the academic side of intelligence is irrelevant and the football knowledge is a very different thing.

Were you there? The team looked liked they'd shrugged off a huge weight when he left the field and the results speak for themselves. A balanced team, playing enthusiastically, with many fewer mistakes and the whole crowd behind them.

The best way to ruin that is for MH to take the easy way out and start him against Sunderland as if nothing had happened.

Good point Mr P. I think the argument over whether to boo him or not is mute as you can't control a crowd from spontaneously doing something (although I personally wouldn't want to see anymore booing).

The real debate should be, if JB isn't in form/playing well does MH have the cojones to not start him. Only Saturday shall tell

Derry tells QPR fans to lay off Joey Barton
By Julian Bennetts | Friday, March 23, 2012
Shaun Derry has told the QPR boo-boys to lay off Joey Barton and insists the club captain's commitment cannot be questioned.

The former Newcastle man was jeered by a number of supporters when he was substituted just after the hour mark during Wednesday's game with Liverpool.

Barton's replacement, Jamie Mackie, then scored the late winner as Mark Hughes' men came from two goals down to beat the visitors and lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

But fellow midfielder Derry has warned QPR's supporters that they are picking on the wrong man and has told them to get behind their team for tomorrow's vital trip to Sunderland.

"As players you hear what goes off in the stands," Derry told London Call-In. "It has been a very frustrating season for everyone connected with the club. But when that third goal went in you looked at the bench and Joey was on (substitute goalkeeper) Radek Cerny's shoulders. That tells a story for me.

"He is fully behind this side, the squad, and the club. His commitment is there. Granted, he didn't have his best game against Liverpool and he is probably having a bit of sticky time at the minute, but he will hold his hands up and say that because what he is is very honest.

"Like him or loathe him he is a very honest character.

"And when you are in that situation you kind of feel you are playing with blinkers on. You are so concerned with trying to get that next pass right it takes away what your real game is.

"But Joey has a great pedigree at this level and I'm sure he will get through it. He is there for the boys, is one of the lads in the dressing room and we are fully behind him

Derry is unelected leader of this squad anyway.
And his support of Barton who was bought in to replace him speaks volumes about Sean's man management qualities.
Hopefully he stays with us in a coaching capacity when his career is over.
