Just like to say that to call Revie's leeds "professionals" is akin to calling a Chinaman Japanese.

    Clough > Revie.

As successful as they were, they could not attribute that success to professionalism. Even in the nitty gritty era of football.

I had hoped that by taking an enforced break ( holiday if you like ) that everything would be smelling of roses on this forum but it's just the same bile that left a couple of months ago !!!!!! the only thing that has not changed is that Fergie is brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will always be tossers on here, but most of em are ok. You've just had the misfortune of encountering possibly the most bitter, hate-filled tool on here - Il Duce. Thankfully we don't see him much. Welcome back anyway mate, the more the merrier <ok>

Now now, Il Duce seems to have been behaving himself recently, or at least trying to debate rationally and hold in his hatred. Just wait till you meet KingPepeReina...it's a once in a lifetime experience... <laugh>

Yeah dealing with KingPepeReina leaves me with the impression that wow you've become very cocky all of a sudden. Hmmmmmm could this new arrogance be because of 1 win over Man Utd? Surely I think he's not that stupid to be so full of himself over just 1 match? Then I realise he is. Also when reading his posts you actually start to believe the guy is mad. Sad really.

KPR is a joker but I think there is genuinely a degree of mental illness there somewhere, so he's just amusing. He's never come out with the Munich bile Il Duce did though. Maybe the sheep-botherer has changed his ways now?

Hi Lads, I was a bit pissed last night ( well a lot pissed actually ! ) and was probably a bit harsh with my comments. Like Jip Japp Stam said the more the merrier so let them all come and comment on this forum, including those with bitter agendas as we true Reds know the reasons for the bile, hatred, jealousy etc etc and long may it last. The more hatred that is directed towards our great club means that Fergie is still brilliant !

Totally agree. When people stop being bitter and insulting us then we'll know the club is in trouble...until then their hatred fuels us...and their tears taste sweet... :)

I remember between 2003 and 2007, when Chelsea and Arsenal were the top dogs, United started to become slightly less hated (unbelievable I know). It didn't last long of course, we came back bigger and stronger than ever before, and the bitterness spread again. But it didn't quite feel right at the time!

I remember that too - I think some of the hatred and bitterness migrated to Chelsea, but only for a few years...it soon came back to it's rightful home <ok>

I quite like that City aren't that popular these days too. I know it's bad news in a way because it means they're becoming more competitive, but some of their fans are tossers and they don't deserve to be popular.

Amazes me how wound up everyone is that I referred to Man U fans as 'Munichs'. It's a common slur against your fans due to the fixation with the disaster and constant unfailing ability to drag it up to evoke sympathy at every opportunity.

For example, Man U fans somehow equating Munich with the 9/11 atrocities:

"Munichs" is basically the same as calling Liverpool the 'victims'. It's not like I said I'm glad young men died on the plane, is it? Just that in the wake of 1958, there have been some pretty poor behaviour from both the club and the fans.

    Anyway, back to the thread...

What do you attribute that success to then? Revie and Les Cocker Rev-olutionized (get it?) the English game with some of their ideas, ideas which instilled a professional practice at Elland Road which gave us a headstart over other clubs at the time and led to us being the world's dominant football force. A team who could only kick the **** out of people wouldn't have reached those heights or been effective at all in European competition.

Leeds were obviously an extremely good team in the 60's and 70's. A team that did not need to be dirty ****ers. The fact that they chose to "kick the ****" out of people confirms the very reason why they were not professionals.

It would be unprofessional not to give some back when you were taking it. Otherwise you'd end up like Arsenal today, a team full of five foot tall pussies who any physical side know they can boss around. The very reason you say they were not professionals is quite the opposite.

Don't be ridiculous. Arsenal aren't getting pole-axed like the teams were in the 60's. To compare to the two eras of football is downright ignorant. Proffesionalism in football does not include violence. Henceforth, Leeds United were a good side, but dirty Kunts. Therefore... unprofessional.

The fact it's a common slur doesn't make it right. Would it be right to refer to Jews as "Holocausts" or Blacks as "Slaves" based on how strongly they feel about those parts of their history? It takes a very twisted mind to turn the fact we remember the tragic loss of some of our former players into a slur against us. And Utd fans don't mention Munich half as much as other fans use it as a vile taunt...

Either way, I would appreciate it if you didn't bring the subject up again. Rightly or wrongly, it is a very sensitive issue for United fans, and will only serve to get people's back up. Thanks. <ok>

And back on topic, I personally don't consider the Leeds team of the 1960s and 1970s to be any less professional than physical teams like Stoke and Bolton today. Yes they tended to be more physical than their opponents, and did sometimes cross the line, but most of the other teams back then weren't models of physical restraint. I remember Nobby Stiles once very proudly boasting about leaving scars on both legs of Gunter Netzer in the 1972 Euro Championships...and I don't think he even got booked for it.
