As opposed to being unoriginal and posting crap about Leeds and Millwall fans that a Norwich fan would not understand <doh>

I've said that their particular angle is embarrassing, so we agree on that. But you've still failed to get at the root of the argument, which is explaining why it's apparently so wrong to sing/say/utter these things, and if so, why it's right that people are ejected, scorned, given a criminal record and banned from ever watching the team they love again.

On the point about Barnsley, I note that Richard Sutcliffe has brought up the old chestnut about Barnsley fans abusing Billy Sharp about his dead kid, even though it was only one person, and he was shouted at by all those around him. And the Derby fans singing "where's your Chairman gone?" - wow, that's so offensive. What do they expect; "there's only one Nigel Doughty" to be ringing around the Derby end?

How are my thoughts on a situation that is akin to somewhere in the 70's and 80's unoriginal?!?!

If my opinions are unoriginal, and your boys opinions are original, then I can rest assure you, my unoriginal thoughts are the same thoughts as over 90% of the football supporting world. So if that's the case, on this occasion, I'm happy to be described as unoriginal.

    Just have some respect, FFS.

I dare not second guess how you would react if a group of opposition fans started singing songs about a loved one of yours who died. I'm not ashamed to admit, that if they did that when I was within ear-shot, I would break down. My first love is my family and friends, with my second love being NCFC and football in general. If I was ever to be faced with people singing about a loved one of mine dying, I would have a big decision to make as to if I ever wanted to step foot inside a football stadium again, as it would kill the love for me.

If that's a "Southern Softie" sounding attitude, I make absolutely no apology for it. Its my opinion and something I feel very, very strongly about.

We don't even have a song about Millwall. Nor Norwich.

They are not, and never have been, seen as major rivals. True, the 'Wall can be despicable and 'orrible fans, full of hatred and bile (touché, some may say), but since our League 1 days, I have had to admit to a grudging respect for them and hope that most of them have the same for us.

"We all hate Leeds scum" was apparently sung at Accrington Stanley recently, according to the latest edition of The Square Ball. Where did that come from?

At least we're not famous anymore.

Unlike Norwich. They never were famous. And the 'Wall have only ever been infamous.

Did you see a Norwich fan deface it? If not, do you have proof it was a Norwich fan?

If it is ever proved a Norwich fan did that, I and the vast majority of Norwich fans will disown the twat. We hate 1p5wich, but we have massive respect for what SBR done for not only East Anglian football, but English football.

Not sure what being famous and having been famous has to do with fans singing and laughing about dead people, but whatever floats your boat.<ok>

I do have respect for my own team's dead. I remember the tribute at the Bremner statue well after our fans were killed just over a decade ago. I also laid some flowers and a message at St James' Park after Gary Speed died much more recently. Likewise, it's right that other teams should show respect to their own players, fans or personnel who have died or befallen a misfortune. But I don't see why other people should have to indulge that nonsense about caring for other clubs except your own. As supporters, if you can give your team the edge by being partisan - singing for them and against the opposition, you're doing the right thing. I see the terraces as a boredom-free and moral-free zone.

Agreed. But if that were the case, I wouldn't go or pay attention to high-profile fixtures like this one. You can say exactly the same about Michael Jackson jokes after he died. Oh my god, what if Tito had been in earshot? It's part and parcel of life.

I don't see it as a north vs south or working class vs middle class dispute, just as one between fans who've been sanitized by the Taylor Report, Sky TV and the anti-supporter press, and those who see football for what it does best: passion.

This is what I mean. How can you build a real rivalry on respect?

We haven't built a rivalry on respect, we just respect one part of Ipswich's history, that is all. The rest of their ****e club is worthless.

I haven't been sanitized by anything. I am a very passionate person who wears his heart on his sleeve, but its my opinion that there is no need to sing about dead people, whether being an instigator or provoked. This view is solely my own, and always has been and it certainly hasn't been brought on by any one person or organisation.

I certainly don't see respecting other clubs dead as being nonsense. I have a personal opinion, and that isn't changed as soon as I walk through any turnstile and grab my seat.

    <ok>

You should be an Eastenders copper with an attitude like that. Never mind looking for cold hard evidence, lets just charge him on conjecture.

Maybe it could have been a Sunderland or Middlesborough fan who has the same thought as you. Norwich fans coming up, they will get the blame if I go and deface SBR memorial.

What do you think should happen to people who do sing about the dead?

In all honesty, not a lot can be done, can it? It would be ridiculous to start charging people with criminal offences. That would probably be worse than players getting yellow carded for incitement when they take their shirts off after scoring a last minute winner in front of his own fans, when there about 250 away fans in the stadium.<doh>

I still don't agree with it and see no benefit to it. People turn up to football grounds every week to support their team. Really not convinced a chant about a dead person or persons is going to motivate a team to score - if anything it could demotivate them, but motivate the other team.

Where do you think Leeds fans have to work to afford Leeds tickets these days?

It will take Norwich years to catch us up if they ever do. <yikes>
