We have signed striker Rowan Vine from QPR until the end of the season! Anyone know much about him? UTG
He signed for QPR just after they had heavy investment from Bernie, he hasn't had too much playing time since they signed the likes of Mackie and co but is a good all round striker. This is a great signing in my eyes, I think he's a lower championship striker and a class act for League 1. I'm really excited!
Good record up to 2008 when he broke both tibia and fibia. Players are rarely the same after that sort of injury and he has done nothing since. Big question mark?
Strange one pulled out of the bag by Hessenthaler... At a time when both Kuffs and Tomlin are coming back from injury!?! Not the most prolific of strikers... his best spell was with Luton, but that was 5-6 years ago now... Seems to have gone out on loan/trial at several clubs over the last couple of years (read that the most recent was Southend... They didn't fancy a punt on him!). During that time he has managed 1 goal in 26 appearances. Who knows, may turn out to be another Tomlin, keen to impress and perhaps gain a contract for next season. Will be interesting to see how this one develops. May make the bench at best on Saturday.
Yeah Bristol, that is a fair point I've just looked over his recent loan outings and he hasn't exactly been prolific, That said he hasn't played at this level and I think He may be able to add another dimension. I was pretty surprised we loaned out a striker though....
I'm not sure what Hessenthaler is trying to accomplish with this signing. If his record is anything to go by, Rowan will need a good few games to get going. It's certainly a gamble with time running out.
i know exactly what your saying kentish man, he needs to hit the ground running, is he going to do that after such along lay off...very hard to see, but we can only hope ! i'd take that chance with how things stand for us and would without a doubt have vine over oli, no matter what comes of it !!!
Have seen a bit on Twitter that says he had a trial at Southend but was turned down for being really unfit! Hmmm
QPR fan here. good luck with vine.. you'll need it! after he had his training ground injury he threatened to sue the club. by all accounts he's a bad egg. best wishes for the rest of the season.
I think this is a good signing he may not have had many goals of recent but he has played at all good level and has the experience there which could come in vital at this time.
hi km, back in '08 ( seems a lifetime ago in QPR history!) he was a big name signing for us. I think he did alright in his 1st season but as its been said here he's had several loans with other clubs and they've all branded him lazy and unimpressive. we've been trying to offload him for ages but his contract is watertight by all accounts. it's up in the summer and won't be renewed so he'll be a free agent.
Perhaps his loan signing is more of an extended trial then? If he manages to get scoring again our front line will be pretty destructive for this league. Hopefully he can gain fitness quickly and add firepower!
For somebody who cost 3.5 million when he joined Birmingham a few years ago (the exact year escapes me) it seems like such a rapid decline for a player with the undoubted potential. I guess it shows what a serious injury can do to a career. I can't personally see it being any more than an opportunity to get himself in the shop window. If we don't go up this season I can't see us affording his wages, whatever they may be. He'll welcome this brief opportunity to play football again and then assess his fitness etc. during the close season.
He's deluded to the point that he still thinks he's a Championship striker. He's spent years now blaming everyone but himself for not recovering from his injury but has had a terrible attitude when presented with numerous opportunities to get some fitness when out on loan although what seems a lifetime ago he was actually a very good player. When we were throwing money around for fun we gave him and a few others ludicrously long and lucrative contracts which he has chosen to sit on and doss about in the reserves rather than accepting a payoff and rejuvenating his career.
We must learn from previous contractual 'mistakes' before making any long term committment. ( some mistakes are recent ) - no names dared to be mentioned.
By the comments he may be poor at Premiership or Championship, but this is League 2 and I think he is worth a go, I can actually remember when he was at Luton and he was their best player and worked very well, sadly he may have changed but that was between the Championship and League 1 for them that he was good so I have a lot of hope that he may be good for us.
