I'm sure United fans will tell you it's all "mind games". And to be fair he is probably winning them at the moment.

It was a definite rant from the old fella.

His thoughts on the Tevez saga.

"If you talk about desperation, they played a player the other night who refused to go on the pitch, the manager said he'd never play again and he takes a five-month holiday in Argentina. What is that? Could that come under the description of desperation?"

Yes fergie we remember the way Rooney held your club to ransom and made you cry and made you kiss his arse when you begged him to stay.

any time a manager responds himself he looks bad.

this is mancini sending vieira out to stir the pot while mancin sits and looks stately as he's once removed fro mthe banter.

Ferguson has leaped on it so he bascially bit the bait... wummery 101

the mind games are just that but the result on the pitch are what matters and city have the harder games beofre the must win manc derby. I think city have bottled it a bit in letting utd in front and unless utd make a total F up thay could well be 4 points clear by said derby.

Loving the comments claiming Fergie 'Owned' Viera, I think it's far from that. Viera got the reaction he wanted, he's got old whiskey nose hot under the collar and it comes to something when even backroom staff are having a pop at SAF and getting hime riled PMSL

I think bringing Scholes out of retirement was not a sign of desperation. It was a sign that they have no money to sign any one new.

Yeah Sir Alex is cracking up just like our average team. Who knows how we compete. <doh>

    Style's having a mini rant.

    <laugh>

This is about Fergie not your team or how it competes.

    <grr> ha

Fair enough I think Fergie was right in what he said, to me he didn't seem like he was "cracking up". Do you believe he should have done somthing different like ignore Patricks comments all together?

You as a manc can see no wrong in what Fergie does/says which is fair enough but as outsiders we see the double standards of him crystal clear.

Fergie should have kept his gob shut and let his team do the talking but he bit like an amateur,he's got away with some bad comments about other clubs(ours in particular)in the past so when he makes his occasional rant we buzz off it.

It is funny when Fergie has a bit a bit of a rant
But the answer to your question Sometimes when you say nothing it proper gets to the person that is trying to wind someone up when the other person does not take the bate. But this is Fergie we are talking about and people like him will never learn

I would agree it's always nice to see rival managers getting uptight.

Not sure how the interview went down but I suspect he was first asked about Viera's comments and then couldn't help but give his opinion so it's hard for me to see what he has done wrong.

Ah,but what about the times during his press conferences hes talked about other clubs and their business when its had nothing to do with Utd's forthcoming game?
He chooses what he wants to talk about and he could have laughed at the City jibes and talked about the rain in Manchester instead.

Bottom line is Viera beat him at his own game.

Surely the 'winner' will be decided come the end of the season? After all, SAF also responded to Benitez's "facts" rant in January 09, but I don't think anyone would claim Benitez won that particular battle ;)

If you watch the interview it's pretty obvious SAF doesn't like the comments and wants to hit back a bit, so you could say Vieira's gotten to him. But it's interesting to see that SAF also turns the discussion away from Vieira to focus on Tevez, right after Tevez helped City to a win on Weds. Will be interesting to see if that has an impact on the City dressing room...I can't see Tevez passing up on the opportunity to comment if he's asked about it...

Concerning the things he says about other teams I believe all managers do this, I don't necessarily agree with it but it appears near all of them can't help themselves.

The whole mind game thing may play a small part but it comes down to what happens on the day. I don't think Fergie will be concerned with what anyone else has said when it comes to picking his team/tactics. Same goes for Kenny and any other manager.

Game, set and match to Vierra on this one. Doesn't matter that Ferguson was asked a question, he responded. Hence Vierra achieved his objective.

As i pointed out earlier Fergie bent over backwards and kissed Rooney's backside to get him to stay and sign an improved megabucks contract(which is what Rooney wanted all along)so its a bit rich him throwing the Tevez situation at city as a response to Viera.

    Ok Swarbs over to you.

I don't think so Rooney was out of line but nowhere near as bad as Tevez was. You cant honestly believe the two incidents are the same.

This is not about tevez or Rooney. Vierra threw his comment out. Ferguson was forced to respond and then went out of his way to expand his little rant. If what Vierra said had not hit home then Ferguson would have dismissed it with a "he can think what he wants" response. It's simple!!
