Coming from the guy some of you think should be the captain, maybe he'll get the point through... http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport/football/qpr-fans-are-wrong-to-turn-on-joey-barton-insists-shaun-derry-7583295.html âAs players you hear what goes off in the stands,â said Derry. âIt has been a very frustrating season for everyone connected with the club. âBut when that third goal went in you looked at the bench and Joey was on (substitute goalkeeper) Radek Cernyâs shoulders. That tells a story for me. He is fully behind this side, the squad, and the club. His commitment is there. Granted, he didnât have his best game against Liverpool and he is probably having a bit of sticky time at the minute, but he will hold his hands up and say that. âLike him or loathe him he is a very honest character. And when you are in that situation you kind of feel you are playing with blinkers on. âYou are so concerned with trying to get that next pass right that it takes away what your real game is. âBut Joey has a great pedigree at this level and Iâm sure he will get through it. He is there for the boys, is one of the lads in the dressing room and we are fully behind him.â
agree with Derry. Pointless, unless it gives JB the motivation he obviously needs. Maybe tomorrow will be the acid test
Well said Shaun Derry. Doesn't look like Barton has upset the dressing room. What do you think boo boys?
We are a better team without Barton on his current form as was proven on Wednesday night. He should warm the bench at the weekend and maybe the break will do him good. Mackie deserves to start.
Surprise surprise. What else is he supposed to say? There's only one way for Barton to get the fans back onside; Put in the Graft.
But its better than making assumptions. How many more have to show support, they could have said nothing? Looks to me like they are deliberately telling the fans to shut up and get behind the team whatever they think of Barton. And you're bang on Swords the only way is to show the fans but the way some of this reads many wont give him the chance to do that.
Mackie has had plenty of chances and been average at best. A few weeks ago there were loads of people saying he puts in plenty of effort but doesn't have the quality.
I think he's been given a bloody good chance, '74. All season in fact. Its entirely up to him now. He's got 9 Cup Finals to change the perception of him. Change the attitude Joey.
Towing the party line perhaps? It will obviously be detrimental to our chances if the booing continues...also a lot of people are ignoring the fact that those of us who are pretty anti-Barton have also stated that we're anti-booing!!
"Granted, he didn’t have his best game against Liverpool and he is probably having a bit of sticky time at the minute". If this is the view from the playing staff then why on earth is he still always the first name on the team sheet? If either manager had had the balls to leave him out when it was clear he was having this (season long) sticky time then we would not be having these heated debates on here and people would not be frustrated into booing him. His performances simply aren't good enough to merit a squad place let alone the captains role.
I don't like his attitude Swords, I don't like his twitter, theres lots I don't like but I don't think he's given a fair crack or appreciation for the good stuff. The stats on the other thread are very telling!
Yeah towing the party line if TF, Amit and MH supported him. Mackie and Derry are two very senior players at the club and two very strong minded individuals. I don't believe anybody could get them to say something they didn't want to say.
Hard to say. Where were you sitting? From my seat in S block it felt like most of the ground were clapping and cheering the decision to take him off. I really couldn't put a % figure on it.
