Madhog that is the real reason TWF hates Pearson (N), he along with Pearson (A) and Allam got rid of his man crush. Would be surprised if the choice to replace Dowie was from a shortlist of 2 - Adkins and N Pearson, there must have been others discussed.
Adam Pearson picks them out of a hat , his worst mistake was ever putting Dowies name in there I still don't think Adkins was ever in the frame For what it's worth I have always liked Adkins and he would have done well at Hull City , I don't care which club he came from It's easy to say he had money or a team given to him , look what he did at Scunny , they should never be a Championship team in any way
Adkins would have been a good manager I'm sure, but I think grumpy Nige was the perfect man for us at the time.
I believe the actual comment was that before they could confirm the appointment they had to get Duffen's approval as they were negotiating the sale of the club to Duffen (and/fronting for Bartlett). From a business perspective you can't go entering into long term contracts in that situation without discussing it with the soon to be owners in case it affects their valuation of the business or whether they want to bring their own man in. Pearson had effectively made the decision to replace Parkinson with Brown when he was appointed assistant months earlier.
I quite agree. It was against Huddersfield and their goalie ended up at Blackpool (as did Burgess). He was then signed by Leeds ! (The GK i mean)!
Adam may have had mixed fortunes over his choices of managers,, But by god does he know his stuff and how to handle agents and negotiate deals. Oh how we missed AP during the PL days. Adam and Nick make a great team now though.
wonder who we would have got if Barmby hadn't wanted the job permanently. We have had some bad choices as manager, Mark Hateley anyone, but apart from one (we all know who that is) - but surely when they were appointed we were happy with the choice that the board had made.
Armageddon dodged more like, thank ****, didn't realise he was even a contender. I didn't want Laws as City manager, but very much wanted Adkins. He is a class act. I know a few Southampton fans and before Adkins went down there, players were unfit, low on morale, and he changed all that - no mean feat if you ask me. Got them playing decent attractive attacking football and they've been top of the table for almost the entire season. Scoring for fun and playing decent stuff - what more could fans want?
