Liverpool principal owner said finishing "outside the top four this season would be regarded as a failure" Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler added his voice after losing to Sunderland that he do no see our present manager Kenny Dalglish as the solution to our long term problem. http://www.sport360.com/article/ken...-term-says-robbie-fowler?theme=mobile_garland Traditionally, Liverpool do not have a high turnover of managers, apart from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Everton the position of manager in Liverpool is more stable than most premiership club in the premiership. As for Chelsea they had more than five managers over the last decade,Tottenham have got as much mangers too over the same period. Argument for retaining Kenny Dalglish as manager: 1.Luck going Liverpool's way getting pass the opponent in the semi fianl of FA cup on the 14th of May, they stand a chance of winning the FA cup.Winning the FA cup and league cup is not going to be a total failure this season. 2.Kenny would be able to work better with the present squad next season, and can build on this year achievement next season. 3.Any new manager is going to clear out players and we are back to square one. Argument against keeping Kenny Dalglish: 1.The principal owner is of the opinion that finishing ouside the top four is going to be a failure. 2.The owner is likely to think twice before investing more money in players. 3.If things do not work out next season, it is going to be a serious setback for Liverpool My opinion: Give Kenny Dalglish another season before making a decision. The devil you know is better than the one you don't know.
I think we should keep for another year. BUT there is no doubt in my mind that he is not the man for us and he cannot take us any further in the league. He is good for Cups but in the league he has been found out. I hope I am wrong but many fans now think along the same lines as me.
I think that's a very myopic view of what's happened so far under this management team. I quite accept that not finishing in the top 4 is a failure. However, there are indications that the whole squad has already improved far beyond what it was 18 months ago. There are still improvements to be made and hopefully they will be addressed this Summer. Kenny has a 3 year contract. I'm sure that he would wish to be judged on the progress that he has made over the whole period rather than just the 1st full season. Personally I don't see him wanting to stay on in his present role at the end of his term.
Well if you are just talking purely fininshing outside the top 4 is not good enough (it does look like we could end up 7th or worse!) look at the probable top 4 Man City - Bags of money, have bought some quality players for several transfer windows Man Utd - Stable Management, you have to hand it to him, he even gets ordinary teams winning (how much is dont to the amount of time he has been at the club and also opposing manager fear of him?). Arsenal - Despite loosing some key players, their manager has been in place 15 years. A consistant footballing philosophy has got them through (along with Van Persie obviously). Spurs - Manager has been in place 5 years, for several years they have kept hold of their best players and each transfer window have added quality So in all honesty, with all our changes in Management in the last 2 seasons (see Chelsea), the depletion of our squad (bar the last couple of transfer windows) was it really realistic to expect us to be in better shape than those in the top 4? He should be judged on progress, have we seen that? Im not saying sticking with Dalglish no matter what happens but you can bet your bottom dollar that a new manager will bring more changes and the gap on the stable teams will just get wider
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17477550 Whilst I dont hold much stock in what Robbie Savage says, concerning us, he only makes the points that we've all been saying recently. I'm not calling for Kenny to be sacked, but I'm no longer sure that he's the right man to get us closer to CL and the title. It could be that Kenny is the safe/stable hands the club needed after the recent trouble and stability is obviously needs more than one year. The tranfer dealings need to be sorted out, we cant be held to ransom like we were with Carroll, we cant afford to buy players who have had one goodish season in the PL like Adam (Blackpool were relegated how 'good' was he really?) and we cant afford to buy average players for over the estimates just to make them squad players. Things still need sorting out and until they are a top four finish will always be long way off.
We have to stick by Kenny, yes he's made some mistakes in the transfer market and the league, but we tend to forget he's a very experienced manager and he's come back in to a management in a different era of football. He's experienced enough to learn from his mistakes and we have made tons of progress in our style of football, our cup runs with our new owners. Okay the league form has been pretty bad but that's more down to poor finishing than anything else and even so we've won the Carling Cup and stand a decent chance of winning the F.A. Cup, the foundations are down and our league position can be really misleading. The top 7 is probably the most competitive it has ever been in the PL and without saying 'next year is our year' Kenny has to learn from last Summer and look at different options and spend well. Football really can be a funny game, at one stage last night we were 2-0 and heading for a third consecutive league victory, but things can change very fast and we might be reading to much in to a freak scoreline. And like The King said, have we seen progress? Yes we have. Our whole club from management, players and Owners have changed around and we wont be transformed in 1 season but we are well on our way. The Summer will be key, and we have to trust Kenny to learn from mistakes. Our season isn't over yet lads, let's hope Kenny brings us home another cup and even if he doesn't, let's enjoy another trip to Wembley.
Im not 100% convinced on the transfer failings (yes some have been poor, several overpriced), we have said time and time again over the last few seasons our first 11 on their day could beat anybody (and did) but just look at our back up options last season. So I ask what was our transfer philosophy in the summer? Was it to strenghen the squad and look to future or was it to add that extra quality to the 1st 11? I would say in was to have a stronger squad, I cannot imagine that Gerrard and Lucas being fit all season Adam would be a regular starter (for the price he was a good squad player and nothing more) Im sure Henderson was not expected to drastically change our team. Lets wait and see in the summer, we now have a better squad that no longer needs padded out, we can target players that can add that extra bit of quality and magic
On reflection from last night, i've not really changed my opinions too much. I don't think he is the man for the future, but we probably should give him another year. I just find that tough if he is going to go anyway.
No we weren't and now our league stats say lost 5 of the last 6 7/8/9th and the carling cup maybe fa cup is not really progress , lets remember Birmingham won the carling cup last year and were relegated.
Oops didn't mean league wins but yeah you're right. We can still push for 6th, admittedly not where we want to be but we need to look at the many positives in our season for a change.
