Caring for one person does not mean you don't care for others suffering. It is natural to emotionally respond to those closest to yourself and television brings strangers into your front room. Should people not give to a charity for the deaf because it means they don't care about the blind? We all hope that Muamba makes a good recovery and perhaps another life will be saved by increased awareness of this disease. I know of a young woman who died similarly, devastating lives. Apparently 12 young people die every week similarly.
Come on guys and gals lets keep this in prospective.........There is no need for any Histrionics........Nobody that I have seen posting has shown any disrespect to the young man at all. Some have mentioned what is after all facts of life....but that does not mean they are disrespecting the young player. They are telling it as life is........may be a tad on the poor taste side under the circumstances, but a reality. Yes the football community has it seems the voice of one and that is, we all, with out exception, wish the lad well.
Good to see this young man is continuing to improve although still in ICU. Hopefully he has turned a corner now. Get well soon and hope the tests you will be having will turn out to be positive.
Whether or not he is able to play professionally ever again is irrelevant now, as he seems to have just about pulled through. If you look at the case of Ruben de la Red, he retired at the age of 25 to move into coaching with Real Madrid, and no doubt this is an avenue which Muamba could go into.
The main thing is that he recovers his health, but, unless the problem is resolvable (like Lallana's), I doubt he will ever be insurable again to play football. Fortunately, unlike many footballers, there is more to Muamba than just sport as he has A levels and is doing an accountancy qualification. Glad he is showing such improvement.
According to the Bolton doctor, Muamba was not breathing for 78 minutes. What an extraordinary effort by all the medical team that have attended to him and thanks to them, it looks like he may recover. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17460781
Not trying to be controversial or anything, but does anyone else think all the reaction is starting to go OTT? Scarves, Flowerrs, Minutes Applauses, T-Shirts etc all seem to be OTT - the guy is alive, he is improving and just seems over the top. THe guy ain't died ffs. I could understand it on Sunday but I now think its going OTT A schoolboy of 16 died recently from similar problems playing Rugby - Can't see anything there sympathy wise? YEs, it's sad what has happened to him and very bad. Don't get me wrong I want him to improve, but I just think it's getting very OTT
It's very much the whole media thing. The event was witnessed first hand by over 30,000 people, who saw professionals saving a man's life. It also involved high profile people. By the same token, several soldiers have died in Afghanistan over the last few days. Yes, they were mentioned on the news. The contradiction I began to see, after the story began to unfold, was that a whole swathe of highly trained people worked like true professionals to give back to a person the most highly treasured thing he possessed - his own life. In any true and undistorted society, these highly trained professionals would be amongst the most valuable people on Earth, and yet they are pretty much also-rans in the great scheme of things. While the people who skilfully kick a pig's bladder around on a field are actually the prized and important ones. Bit odd that, isn't it..? OK, I've distorted their relative values to society by playing up the medical professionals and playing down the entertainment professionals. But doesn't society do this everyday, only the other way round, so that it appears entirely normal to us..? Just a thought.
I think sometimes one person can become symbolic. All the people watching become involved and Muamba's recovery brought cheer into their lives, because he represented all the young people that we love. The same way that one injured or starving child saved in the third world becomes symbolic for the thousands of others that are subsequently helped by aid pouring in. It is easier to related to a few people than to millions...human nature. P.s. I have a strange feeling that they would have given up on me a lot earlier than they gave up on Muamba...but hey ho!
Spot on TSS, and very well said. I was fairly confident Muamba would recover from the clinically-dead situation he was in because he was treated instantly and incessantly with up-to-date equipment by dedicated professionals right up to the point where his heart started beating and he could breathe for himself. That isn't easy, but it is fairly routine these days because of the skills of the staff involved. And what, you might wonder, is the government doing to reward the professional and dedicated work that helps to save people like Fabrice Muamba dozens of times every day around the country? Destroying the NHS against all the advice of those professional groups that's what. And on top of that, smashing the one decent thing those professionals have up to now been rewarded by, their pensions.
Did you not know it is purely down to the efforts of the media that he is recovering?! Much of the media response to this is due to the fact that it strikes a chord with the readers and I guess some of them will be closer to the players, as that is their job. Nevertheless, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
Agree with Chilco too, but remember the salary you earn is relative to your importance in society that is why heads of companies, sports stars and financial sector workers earn more than surgeons, teachers etc. Oh wait... RIP NHS.
Just wrote a very long piece about pensions/NHS etc which will differ from the views of some on here, but have now deleted it because this is after all a footie forum. I enjoyed writing it though.
It would be boring if we all agreed on everything, maybe I should say Lambert is rubbish because he did not score on Tuesday?
Faith can be a great thing. Can't say I've ever felt the urge to pray though, that one visit to sunday school killed the myth for me.
Yeah or it can kill people. What about all the people who die because their families reject medicine and pray for them instead? Blind faith is no different than blind ignorance.
