At this current moment in time my shopping list for Spurs would be the following Hoilett - Blackburn Llorente - Bilbao Sessegnon - Sunderland Robben - Bayern Haangeland - Fulham Robben is unlikely but i think the others are achievable in purchase. With the Euros coming up does anybody have anybody in mind worth watching that maybe worth a bid for Levy and co this summer?
The Llorente ship has sailed, he was too expensive last summer and he hasn't got any cheaper. I think we'll get a new keeper, maybe Al-Habsi or Krul. New centre back, Haangeland sounds like a good shout or Vertonghen but I think we need to sort out Gallas, King and Caulkers future for next season first. Definitely a winger, maybe Hoilett, Krasic or Dempsey... hopefully two wingers. Like the centre backs, I think we need to sort out our current strikers first and if Ade stays then I can't see us bringing in a striker unless Defoe leaves. My ideal would be Al-Habsi, Subotic, Krasic, Dempsey and Ade in, with Naughton and Caulker being brought into the first team. Jenas, Bentley, GDS, Gallas, Charlie and Gomes out to make some room on the wage bill. Edit: Pienaar and Kranjcar can fur cough too!
Hoilett - a definite possibility, and a player to provide competition for places, as well as providing more options Llorente - no chance now. we had our opportunity and bilbao wanted something ridiculous like £35 mill. He's done nothing but improve and everyone's looking at him now. too expensive for us. Sessegnon - Looking very good, but not been in the prem long. price could also be over inflated after a good season. (but a good option) Robben - amazing player, but too injury prone. we've got enough of those. we wouldn't get him anyway, i don't think. Haangeland- good defender, but in order for us to progress to the next level we need even better and need to be looking to replace ledley long term. BH is already 30. I'd like to see any of the following: Hoilett, Marin, Hazard, Leandro and Vertonghen. At present, I'm stuck with another striker option. I think Remy is a good player, but i think he's overpriced. all of the above are possible, but we need to get a move on. Leandro and his agent are "trying things on" with the media in order to cement a big move. he might be out of the equation soon, too. then of course, there's Lionel Messi. I'm sure daniel can come up with the $430 buy out clause. - it's whether he'd accept 70k-80k a week ... Actually, scrap that idea. Messi wouldn't cut it in the premiership.
I like your targets Roo id pleased with any of your choices! I like your choices too Yid but not sure Dempsey would cut it at Spurs (style)
That surprises me. He's strong, fast, scores goals and can play the VDV role too. He'd be my first choice transfer target!
i know what you mean YV. but every time I look at a player now, I ask myself, "does this player take us up a level?" - for me, although Dempsey is a good player, i don't think he's the sort of player that can really make the difference. the "top 4" seems to have gone out of the window, and it could be argued that next season there could be a very strong 6 or 7. Liverpool will continue to spend money, Arsenal will make improvements, Chelsea will replace the golden oldies, we'll sign a couple of "big players" and City and united will be up at the top, just like this season. Even Newcastle will make improvements and be there, or there abouts. we've not gotta start asking ourselves who the sort of players are that are going to secure us top 4. there's no option other than to spend what's required. everyone else will. - the club know this too, hence who we're linked with. I'm confident that we'll get who we need. a couple of surprises I feel too.
If I was going to name names, the likely players are... Remy Leandro Vertonghen Hoilett Krul ...however, whilst it's likely Vertonghen and Remy (probably Hoilett as well) will be arriving, the others are 50/50.
Llorente is who I've wanted for about 2 years now. The perfect target man. Hoilett would be welcomed, though I like the look of Zaha of Palace. Maybe try and get a deal for Krul to join the season after next - when Brad's deal expires, though after his performances I wouldn't mind seeing him play for another couple of years. We'll have Caulker back next season. Him, Daws, Younes, Ledley and Billy G (plus Bassong) should be enough.
Forgot all about Bassong! Whilst, I'm sure we'd have enough CBs numerically, I don't think we should be keeping an unhappy Bassong for a second year and more than one of the injury prone CBs(Gallas and King). Dawson's also starting to pick up injuries regularly so I think we need some freshening up at the back.
Based on a few predicions by...well, me, next season our centre backs will be Kaboul, Vertonghen, King, Dawson, Caulker, Gallas (in something like that order)
We really need to sort out our squad, clear out the dead wood and bring in some suitable back-up with potential. The first XI doesn't need much work and I'd be happy to see Caulker and Naughton brought into the equation. Our forward line needs a complete revamp. Adebayor's not our player at the moment and neither Defoe nor Saha appear to be able to play the lone role in his absence. We need players that can come straight into our system and replace Bale, Lennon, van der Vaart, Assou-Ekotto and Modric without having to completely alter the way we play. I think that Huddlestone can do a good job in the deep playmaker role, but I'm worried that he's missed the whole of this season, basically. King's starting to worry me too, to be honest. He was superb in the first half of the season, but he's clearly struggling badly at the moment.
I'd go with Damiao, Vertonghen, I also have always liked Fulham's Dembele. I think he would fit in well at Spurs. Goalkeeper? Well, I'd go for Krul, but we may have quite a bit of competition there. I like Swansea's keeper, Vorm.
In - Damiao, Vertonghen, Hazard, Vrom, Hoilet, Remy Out - Ade , Defoe , Gomes, Jenas, GDS, Bently, Bassong Upgrade to first team - Caulker, Naughton, Townsend, Kane Coaching role - King ( We cant get rid of him can we )
works on FM! Everyone is in agreement. We rely to much on a few players, with Bently, GDS, Krankjar, Gomes, Dawson, Bassong, Jenas, Rose and Khumalo all either not playing enough or useless. Why have a squad with all these players if they are not going to play?
When it comes to leaving the club, the players fall into two distinct categories: the ones that need to go because they're a drain on our wage bill or will never step into the first team in a million years, and the players that we could receive some decent offers for so need to bide our time. Sell to first bidder: Bentley, Jenas, Nelsen, Khumalo, Alnwick, Obika Listen to serious offers: Defoe, Dos Santos, Gomes, Gallas, Bassong, Pienaar, Corluka After that, some of the youngsters need time to develop, but not time we can offer them right now - or in one case, a last chance saloon to prove they can offer something to the club. In other words... Season-long loan to Premeirship clubs: Carroll, Smith, Bostock Season-long loan to Championship clubs: Kane, Byrne, Luongo Short-term loans: Anyone else That should balance the wage bill for the arrival of Remy, Vertonghen, Hoilett et al, as well as give more opportunities to Caulker, Naughton and Townsend.
