Phil Bardsley has been pretty good this season, I think we can all agree, but is his form at left back more of a hinderance than help? Michael Graham for The Roker Report discusses... http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/3/23/2067021/bardsley-or-balance
True mate, I believe Bardo will be our right-back next season and hopefully Brucey will secure an actual left back of the Baines mould in the summer however they seem to be few and far between. Bardo would excel at right-back.
Just a small point, (great article by the way) on that roker report website it has the slogan "an safc blog that's interesting..." just to point out that it is grammatically incorrect 'An' is used before a word containing a vowel, eg ' an egg, or an ostrich' 'A' should be used for all others so ' A giant chicken, A television, A Sunderland AFC blog that is interesting'
Consider it changed Pat, surprised at two things - 1) I never noticed. 2) nobody else did. Thank you for pointing out though, 10 points for observation for you, and a trip to Specsavers for me!
honest mate if your gonna point out stuff like that all the time you better come up with something thats gonna keep us interested. roker puts some cracking stuff on here and spelling isn't that important, its more the content. well done again roker
bardo player of the year and you want to change him, and you champion someone like muntari, how about keep bardo where he is and just send sm home
Just an idea here - why not keep them both? I know you don't rate Muntari, comm, but there's a good few who do.
hey mate here's to hoping he proves me wrong, but he's hardly set the sol alight, and im sure he feels like he's letting you lads down but he shouldn't be the only one to feel that way. so here's to sully, prove commachio please
In a few weeks when relegation and europe are well and truly out the window, would anyone give Rico another go there? Or even try out young Blair Adams?
Cheers roker report, keep up the good work, mackem911 - neither did I until my missus (an graduate in English) told me about a month ago ha ha, spreading my new found knowledge
I like the way Mcbardo plays on the left cutting in. The problem on Sunday is that we had another right footed player in front of him, it didnt take liverpool long to suss that they could force us to check back every time we attacked down the left second half.
Just because I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, you're actually wrong here. It's now been changed to "A Sunderland blog.." but assuming it was previously "An safc.." the "An" was correct but the "safc" should have been in capitals. The reason for the whole a/an thing is due to pronunciation. "a" followed by a word beginning with a vowel doesn't "flow" correctly, hence "an" is needed to make it sound right. In this instance, the abbreviation of SAFC doesn't start with the hard "suh" sound of S, it's pronounced "ess", therefore "an" should be used due to the soft pronunciation of the S. Edit: On topic, I agree with drunken-safc. If we can find a proper left winger Bardo is fine at left back, we just need some variation, 2 right footed players down the left makes us far too predictable. What I'm saying is, in my opinion, we should EITHER replace bardo, or fine a left winger. My preferred option is number 2. Not sure if Bardo would be good enough going forward on the right anyway, his crossing was shocking from what I recall - we all wanted him gone in Summer, remember? Cutting inside suits his playstyle which is why I reckon he's better at LB than RB.
But surely safc is an acronym, not a word? As such the initial s is pronounced "ess", as the acronym is pronounced "ess" "ay" "eff" "see" - as in the chant. Consequently I would contend that "an SAFC" is correct. As in "an SAS raid". You would not say "a SAS raid", would you?
Spot on with your thoughts about McBardo. Most of us believe him to be our player of the season, so I am struggling to understand why are we even discussing the possibility of moving him from the LB position, where he has excelled and surprised everyone in football this season? Bardsley MUST remain as our regular LB. If it's not broke, don't fix it! A decent left footed winger is what we need
