I think the debate is over.... Mackie for captain? He may not be the brightest but he certainly won't let a QPR slump. I don't want to see Barton as a QPR player again and I never thought I'd say that about someone wearing hoops.
The captain has to be the first name on the team sheet every week. Despite last night, Mackie may not be guaranteed his place in the team week in and week out. If Barton does not start, then Derry should have the armband. Onouha is the man for next year and the future.
What's with Macki'e 'celebration'? My take is that he was saying it does not matter when compared to Fabrice Muwamba's situation??
No our captain last night was Adel Taarabt ... Don't expect a mazzy 20 yard run or a nutmeg .. He can do those with ease ... Low on confidence ( its no wonder) I thought he put in a great tippy tappy performance and I expect a lot of clubs to look at his new maturity as yet another asset to a world star in the making . If he keeps this simple side to his game and mixes it with his other skillsets he becomes in the long run unplayable to other teams . He is our captain for the future
Would love to agree with ya FJand yes he was part of a team last night..didnt see anything that stood out a captain material and he defo aint a leader or he would have Fu**ed JB off as soon as he started...? Again..he can be a good solid Prem player if he puts his head down and grafts...with all the flicks and tricks gone he is nothing beter than any other team have. Just WE know that there may be a minute of magic every now and again.... Didnt think he wa great but did a job...... For the record..still not convinced...sorry..not a 1 game wonder merchant ?!!
Good shout RTID, I noticed that too.. I just assumed that he had some gripe with his teammates or summink. Hopefully you're right though and it was a Muamba reference. He's a guy who is all about character, so I can imagine that it would be..
There was something else with Mackie last night - he had the ball in the right back position coming out of defense and seemed lost for options. He then sent a terrible sqaure ball back in front of our own box to a Liverpool player in a really dangerous position, and then seemed to stop up to have a real go at one or two of our other players before the danger he had made was even over. I suppose he thought they should have moved forward into space - but does anyone know what his problem was? He certainly shouldn't have stopped up to complain, but needed to get back and defend the mess that his own pass had left us in.
I'm a great Mackie fan but, as Nuts says, the captain should be the first name on the team sheet and Mackie's not guaranteed a starting place. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Anton took the armband when Joey went for his curtain call.
I thought Mackie's celebration at first was a dig at Mark Hughes as if to say "this is why I should be playing". But who knows?
I believe that Mackie knows that Sparky gets maximum effect from him by using him as a sub. When that energybomb comes in after 60-70 minutes its nightmare to tired defenders.
I realise most of you think I'm a cu&t but this post is spot on. When I've seen Mackie play he may not be the best technically or ability wise but he is a decent player his determination was spot on and he showed more passion than the rest of the team combined. Why he is on the bench I have no idea. Great asset for you guys
