To be fair to the critics this is not a knee jerk reaction. The team has only won once in five games. The performance in the league has not given hope to fans that things will be better next year. But I am not one to call for his head. I didn't call for Roy 's either. I think we should give Kenny at least three years but I have to admit that I believe that the club gave him the job for sentimental reasons.
It's all debate, some think the King should be sacked, some don't, everyone entitled to there opinions, and that's all they are, things will look better after we calm down. Tough defeat to take. <peace>
Carra I haven't seen many of your posts other than this thread but I can see clearly you are passionate about LFC but do you honestly think us "old sods" have settled? It hurts more that when I grew up we were winning everything then to suffer two decades of overall failure its harder to take than growing up getting the odd cup & being told of the glory years by old gits like me I don't believe Kenny is the long term future & I don't think he does either but I'll turn the question round on you. Let's say we'd got a young AVB type in after Hodgeson. He'd have had the same money as Kenny & same level of player to choose from: now you or I can't say who this fictional manager would have bought but lets just say because of having to rebuild entirely he had the team in the same position as now. People like you would be calling for his head & because he WASN'T a legend he'd have a fair chance of going. Then it all starts again next season. Realists living in the here & now? Realists would say there are now, today; 8 teams with similar finances with the same pick of players & managers that have the same right & chance of the top positions as us. Realists would say the chances of getting the right manager, the right players, the right chemistry & all while the other 7 teams don't are very very slim: The owners know this so put a man in (Kenny ) who will have enough respect among fans & prospective players to build the foundations; that WILL survive a season or two of inconsistency until its done, then hand over to the young man to take it forward. Calling for his head is calling for another decade of rolling the dice. A realist would understand this is the best plan for now.
Valid point, Let's take two of those teams at random, Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal had the same manager building that team for years, Chelsea, Russion billionaire ploughed millions in over the years. Liverpool one year into a rebuild. I know that is short, but I am tired and can't be arsed to write a book. but my point is we can't just expect to steam in and finish in the top four one year into recovering from the mess H&G left behind. WE ARE A WORK IN PROGRESS NOT THE FINISHED ARTICLE
I wouldn't be calling for his head, I'm not calling for Kenny's, I don't think it would be fair on him but I would not be displeased with a move upstairs in the summer which was of his own choice. What i do think is that in a way we are putting off the start of a new "dynasty" or however you want to put it by appointing Kenny full time. The likelihood of picking a manager who is talented enough and similar enough to Kenny for them to not make significant changes are low. And anyway, I think the years of building up and improving the team are important in a managers development, I certainly think they had a large effect on Ferguson unfortunately. We have to roll the dice within the next few years, successful or not, I think trying to build something which is going to be changed in a few years anyway is just putting it off.
We might, you have to credit Kenny, results aside, he has given the club it's identity back, doing things the Liverpool way, we have our dignity back. Some things are more important than instant sucess. And remember we have the kit deal and smiles.
By the way; I'm not denying anyone's right to criticise the players or Kenny just because He's Kenny. Cathedral: I know not all are knee jerk. Results have not been good enough for my liking either but I could argue equally that there is a vast difference between Understanding & not being surprised by our inconsistencies based on positions laid out previously and "settling with mediocrity " or having blind faith in a legend. There is a balance in the middle & apologies if this sounds condescending to younger fans but I've noticed this "I want it now or I'll throw a fit" attitude growing in society in general and football in particular. Having an attitude like that doesn't harm me; it just sets the one holding it up for a lot of future disappointment because real life holds a balance of a lot of failure for a little reward: that's what makes it soooo good when it's reward!
I would counter the "i want it now etc" attitude with that younger Liverpool fans have never really experienced much success in comparison to older ones, we don't really expect it in the same way. I agree with you that its growing and certainly present but i think that this needs to be taken into account as well
Not really, Suarez did what he did (and took his punishment), no one controlled him, not you, me, Kenny or the club. Anyway thats closed, we have moved on.
Fair play Liverpool fans. You are very gracious in defeat. If it's any consolation, I think you are not far off being one of the best teams in the league. At times, you played us off the park. Good luck.
Unlikely scenario, the youth team is for blooding the youngsters, what will you tell the senior players, Sorry Andy, Stuart, Luis you are dropped for the rest of the season, we are giving the kids ago. How to destroy team sprit in one foul swoop.
