I used to have a little blue one called joey, but the little ****er would not stop cheeping when the football was on the telly, so in the end I gave him to a neighbour who had an aviary in his back garden.

Sorry, I thought you said Budgie Time.

I'm off to buy a litre of petrol so I can show it to miniOT and tell her in years to come that this is from when petrol was expensive.

Tobacco duty will rise by 2% above inflation...

I recall promising I'd quit when it hit £2.50 for 20... I best honour that promise :(

    I said a £5, running out of cheap brands! Then again I also claimed I'd stop when I hit 25, 30 and 35. . . . . .

So they're knocking a lousy 1p off a litre - is that both Diesel and Petrol or just Petrol?
Find it stupid that we're the only country in the world where diesel is more expensive than petrol down to taxation, the tax on fuel alone is ridiculous!
Also didn't the VAT increase at the start of the year add on 3p anyway, so they've still increased fuel duty by 2p this year, never mind the cost of the VAT on the petrol & oil companies (which they'll no doubt pass onto ourselves).

I can remember about 2 years ago when a 20 pack of Lucky Strike and/or Camel would cost around £5, seen it go up in slow increments and they're around the £6.80 mark now, not taking into account the duty announced today!
Luckily I'm only the occasional smoker, so doesn't make too much difference to me!

When I started you could get 20 for £1.60...

I recall myself and Noah taking a break from Ark building duties and righting the wrongs for 5 minutes. Begating all and sundry. That Noah could begat better than any bugger I've ever known.

    We eventually drifted apart...

    I miss him.

<laugh> Jokes aside, prices like that are a pipe dream these days. Even i can remember when a tenner got you 4 pints and a pack of 10.

I think 20 Bensons were about £1.50 when I started, ran out the other week in a pub in the City and had to get some from a machine (which I obviously couldn't smoke in the pub) for £8.70!!!! I cried . . . . . a lot.

Why does WHSmith charge more than anyone else on the planet for a pack of smokes?

    Especially in train stations.

Because they know they are a last resort. Train stations are similar, but not as bad, to Airports. Once you cant get out, everything is pricey as!

EDIT: Unless you buy in bulk of course.

Wein what rollies do you smoke?
I used to get Golden Virginia if I was smoking rollies, but thanks to my friend's dad redesigning the package with a seal it's now always too wet and squidgy so I swapped to Cutters Choice, although my mate was complaining at the weekend that they've started to go downhill in the 25g packs!

Ah B&H gold, definitely nice tabs as replacements if I can't get my first or second choices in Lucky Strikes or Camels.

Also for anyone who uses trains a lot have you heard of the bite card? You get 20% off from most the food & drink places that tend to be in train stations including Burger King and the like, well worth it! http://www.bitecard.co.uk/

I have a bite card but I never get the chance to use it as I'm usually running through the station at the time :)

See i just get the nice little handy Gold Leaf boxes. 12.5g Baccy and papers for less than 10 L&B, last's me about 5 days cos i can never be arsed to roll! Haha

Lambert and Butler are my night out choice. Money no object i would go Red Marlbro every time, but they are properly expensive!
