At the beginning of the season I said that as a football club we should forget Portsmouth as they are now history. Our real local rivals are Reading and Brighton. I also have enthused all season about Morgan and Guly.

So here I am gloating that I was right. Morgan has been magnificent and Guly has been superb.

It is my opinion that Reading, Southampton and Brighton will be playing Premier League football next season. Brighton will win the play offs.

You guess is as good as mine as to whether Portsmouth will still exist next season.

Some are more worried about our home game against Portsmouth than our home game against Reading.

If Reading beat us then we may not go up as Champions.

If Portsmouth beat us a few sad muppets on Portsea Island will gloat.

So who is it more important to beat if we can only win one of the two games?

    Reading or Portsmouth?

I'd rather beat Reading. So we lose some bragging rights? We'd be promoted and that is surely the most important thing. Besides at the end of the season Poopy will either be 2 leagues below us or cease to exist - who'll have the bragging rights then?

I think a win against Reading could see us all but promoted, so the head says win that one and not worry about Pompey.

However, we owe them a drubbing after the 4-1 we have suffered against them over recent years and the way it looks it could be a very very long time (if ever) before we would get the chance to right that wrong. I would also think that we will take enough points to go up without needing to win the Reading game. If we win every game up to the Reading one then we will be on 87 points which would probably be good enough to finish top two.

So yeah, the Pompey game for me.

I think you all have to remember one thing...It is Pompey's duty to try and stop us winning the title...or doing their bit to try. The same as any other team. "OK you are at the top of the league, so we will roll over for you so you will be promoted". No team is going to say that to us. We are going to have to earn the right to be top and be promoted.
As for Pompey being our rivals....they are for the moment. They are in the same league, they are the nearest team to us.
Some people let their bitterness cloud their judgement. As far as the history of rivalry with any team normally it would be considered the nearest one to you in the same league. Our history with Portsmouth go back a long way but our rivalry does not in the scheme of things.
I truly cannot be arsed with bitterness for any team...let alone Pompey.

There is not one bitter word or thought in my posting nor one shred of bitterness in me. I am a jolly happy chap. What I have made is a statement of fact.

You all seem to think I worry about Portsmouth when in fact what I worry about is all of you worrying about Portsmouth when they are now totally insignificant.

For me it is Brighton and Reading now.

And Beddy as for your comment "As far as the history of rivalry with any team normally it would be considered the nearest one to you in the same league." I have to say that simply reinforces my point as Reading are right next to us and Brighton only a couple of places away.

Portsmouth are as far away as it is possible for any team to be.

Pompey will always be the rivarly for me. I want Brighton and Reading to do well and I see what you mean these should be the clubs we are competing for local bragging rights but nothing will replace pompey as our big rivals.

I find that the expression, "oh, he's not banging on about that again is he?!!" comes to mind for some reason. <doh>

Perhaps if Pompey are relegated and we don't play them for 25 years in any competition, then maybe there will be less heat. But they will still be our rivals. Not hated rivals, just rivals.<ok>

I can see why you thought I meant nearest in the league......but in fact I meant geographically near and in the same league.
My bitterness comment was not necessarily pointed at you in particular nor was it intended to imply there was some in your post or thread. My post was about the general bitterness by a small minority of fans. As I said in my post can't be arsed with any bitterness full stop!!
