Not a Berbatov exactly, but his behaviour in the dressing room while at Arsenal and lack of effort on the pitch led to him being moved on, which is what he wanted. Why do you think the gooners hate him so much?

Sad to say BS, but football IS a business and it is the teams that do the best business who usually prevail.

    Because they're fickle idiots, Chirpy?

As I said before (and King stuck it in his sig), there's little or no difference between what Adebayor, Nasri, Fabregas and Henry all did, yet two are heroes and two are villains.
The honest pair, who admitted that they wanted to move on to clubs which they felt were more ambitious and for a better deal, are hated.
The two liars, who claim to love the club, yet played **** for a year and moped about, feigning injury and looking disinterested, are beloved of the faithful.

Adebayor admitted that it was flattering to be linked with Milan, but I don't think that he even put in a transfer request.
He scored 16 goals in his last season at Arsenal, but his level of effort was criticised and he seemed to fall out with the likes of Bendtner and Nasri, so he was sold.
Not sure that's the same as Berbatov's refusal to play and last minute dash to Manchester, but it's certainly something that he's been tarnished for.

Unfortunately PNP it's the nature of the beast. Player power and agents have turned our game into something which is as bad, if not worse than before the minimum wage for players was agreed. Not saying I like it, but it's a fact.

As for the Arsenal quartet, I make you absolutely right, but we're bound to think exactly the opposite to them!

The fact that plenty of other players have fallen out with Nasri for club and country casts a certain amount of different light on this, though.

I'd take him back, i'd hate to see him go to the Goons.

He could stay be the main man at most of the top clubs in europe - all the big German, Italian and Spanish clubs will be after him I imagine, perhaps with the exception of Barca and Madrid.

I think he would come back because we are now in a position to offer him greater opportunities (for success) than he had last time around; ironically as Chirpy says because he left in the first place, which undoubtedly allowed us to build the squad over the long term.

The problem I see is more of what he wants and what we can offer him, plus having an understanding and acceptance of the job he's being brought in to do, which to my mind is playing understudy to VDV.

I almost hate to say it, but I'd definitely have him back. Great guy to have in the squad, and would suit us more than most teams.

He is still a Spurs "fan" apparently and watches our games with good wishes, I saw it in an interview he did once.

Until we can say that our squad is free from dead wood. It'd be foolish of me to argue against his return.

For example, if Jenas went and Berbatov came in, would you be mad? I wouldn't.

It's a no brainer. He scores from free kicks too. I mean, who else does that reliably in our squad right now?

Remember, he left because he and Keane were carrying too much of the success. We had a very flimsy and unsupportive midfield in comparison to what we have now.

Also, his game has never relied on pace. He's one of the most intelligent players in the game.

I think fans criticising the way he left the club are forgetting that our club works similarly in the transfer market to get players to force moves. I'm not saying he's blameless or that his behaviour was acceptable in anyway but if he wants to come back and work hard but more importantly, sack the agent he had when he left us, then I'd have him back.

It might be unlikely to happen but I'd never say never with Berba, like others have.

I think he'll be weighed down more by his United medals than any regret at leaving Spurs.

    Logical really.

Reported in the Guardian as coming from his agent. Spain, Germany, or France are the likely destinations.

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov is poised to leave Manchester United at the end of the season despite the English champions taking up an extra year's option on his contract, his agent said on Sunday.

"I had three meetings with [United manager Sir] Alex Ferguson," Emil Danchev told Bulgarian media. "We should accept that he'll try to build a team for the next three or four years and Berbatov will not be part of this team. Ferguson wants to change the playing style, to implement more speed. I was pleased with United's position as they said they'll not oppose Berbatov's move in the summer."

Berbatov, who is Bulgaria's all-time leading scorer with 48 goals, joined United from Tottenham Hotspur in 2008. "I understand he wants first-team football," Ferguson said earlier this week. "It's difficult for me to guarantee that so it could lead to him looking elsewhere."

Berbatov, joint top scorer in the Premier League last season, has lost his starting spot at United with Danchev saying the 31-year-old will attempt to revive his club career in another top European league. "Dimitar will most probably leave England but he doesn't want to move to the US, Japan, United Arab Emirates or championships like these," said Danchev.

Several clubs from Spain, Germany and France have been linked in the media with signing Berbatov.

I wonder if he regrets taking part in Fergie's international quitting cull, which all Man Utd players seem to have to do once they hit a certain age?
Gave up being a hero for club and country to be an afterthought.
