Bob Pollock - the linesman who missed QPR’s ‘goal’ against Bolton earlier this month - is off the list for Premier League and Football League games this weekend.

The assistant missed the fact that Clint Hill’s header had gone over the line at Bolton because he had an obstructed view, and is now paying the penalty.

Many referees get demoted to a lower level after a high-profile mistake, but Pollock has been dropped completely for the potentially costly slip.

The match between two of the clubs at the heart of the fight to avoid relegation from the top flight, ended as a 2-1 Bolton victory.

Referee Martin Atkinson, who was in charge of the game, has escaped any form of punishment, and has even been awarded the plum game between Chelsea and Tottenham.<grr>

Atkinson had a sighting of the Hill 'goal' but relied on Pollock to signal it had crossed the line - as TV replays clearly showed within seconds.

Atkinson should have got the same treatment. We were all 150 meters away and saw it in the net, as did Kenny who was celebrating the goal 100 meters away. That Atkinson didn't see it from 20 or so meters with what looked a clear unimpeded view from the TV replays, indicates for me he was paid off, or in urgent need of a visit to the eye specialist!

Something else need to be done too, either play with the yellow ball full time or ban white nets, then it would be much easier to spot. Imagine if there was a Bolton player right behind the ball, you have a tenth of a second to try and find a what ball in a white net against a white background.

Very surprised that Atkinson has escaped any form of sanction, should at least have been demoted to The Conference for his inept performance

Get used to it it wasn't a goal as the final score was 2-1 to Bolton.

Yep, agree with all that. Plus Pollock's temporary disappearance ain't gonna help us now.

No point in crucifying this bloke unless there is some reason to think he made a bad call on purpose. There are incompetant officials up and down the land. The real villains (literally) are the aholes at FIFA and the FA for not using the tools available to them to ensure better decision making.

Disallowing Clint's goal must be the most incompetent decision of the season.

I totally agree with your comment about the FA and FIFA needing to provide officials with better tools <laugh>

Who was the lino that gave SWP offside when he scored that cracking goal against the Baggies that should have put us 2-0 up, can anyone remember? Maybe all the bloody linos need to get sacked/go to specsavers/crawl into a hole and die. Fed up with ****e refereeing. Someone needs to clone Pierluigi Collina about 50 times and have him officiating and running the line at every game, everywhere, forever.

Actually that's a bloody scary thought.

And how often do you see fans at one end of the pitch celebrating a goal at the other only to find out that it hit the side netting, or was cleared off the line?

I'd disagree with Atkinson being punished over it. As a referee you shouldn't undermine your linesman by overruling them on a decision as to whether a ball has crossed a line or not. You can overrule them about who it went off, where it crossed the line, or whether there was a foul, but not on whether it's crossed the line. They're the ones that are supposed to be best position so you have to go with their decision.
