Today's drivel sets a new standard of total bawbaggery. I think he is truly starting to brick it because someone with integrity and no axe to grind is going to shine an objective light on Scottish football.

RUPERT MURDOCH, DERMOT DESMOND AND CRAIG WHYTE

So, just why did Craig Whyte buy Rangers? Any answers? From anybody? Itâs a question akin to, how long is a piece of string.

But letâs look at some of the things which have happened, some of the links and possible links, between some of the people involved and those who would stand to gain from the demise of Rangers.

And the starting point is a back page lead story in the Sun which appeared a couple of years ago and which raised the hoary old tale of the Old Firm decamping to the English Premier League.

Except, this story was different, though it took a bit of digging to discover how different. On the surface the story seemed to focus, not so much on the Old Firm moving to the top flight in England, but on Celtic quitting Scotland.

My information is that, despite the name of a Scottish Sun sports writer adorning the story did not write it as it was passed up the line to the Scottish Sun editor David Dinsmore from Rupertâs favourite, the now disgraced Rebekah Brooks, who was then News International chief executive London, with instructions that it should be used as the back page lead.

Curious!

But given the relationship between her and Rupert Murdoch, it is reasonable to assume Rupertâs fingerprints were all over this story.

Rupert Murdoch is of course a billionaire who moves in the sort of circles inhabited by other billionaires. Celticâs sugar daddy, Dermot Desmond is another billionaire.

Desmond has long longed for a place in the Premiership for Celtic. He has courted many top Fleet Street names, going so far as to fly the Daily Telegraphâs Paul Hayward to Seville in his private jet.

Rupert Murdoch is also of course the big cheese who owns Sky Sports, whose mega money sustains the English Premiership and who has enough influence to make it easier for Celtic and Desmond to fulfill their ambition.

At the time of the Sun story which focused on Celtic, Rangers were still reeling from the fall out from events in Manchester. Was Rupert Murdoch persuaded that a solo Celtic bid for the Premiership would be looked on more favourably?

Now let us examine what has happened since.

For a start, Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell has tried to ditch the ancient Old Firm brand which has linked the two teams for over a century.

WHY?

Fast forward again and come to the current crisis which has engulfed the Ibrox club as a direct consequence of Craig Whyteâs reckless reign. Was it reckless? Or something more?

That is hard to answer, just as it is hard to discover the visible means of financial support which funds conman Whyteâs lavish multi millionaire lifestyle. Nobody can discover where Whyte gets his cash from.

I use the word CASH deliberately as his only known banking arrangement is a client account with Collyer Bristow, filled with Â£24.4M of money he is now accused of getting his hands on fraudulently.

Whyteâs actions â reckless or otherwise â drove Rangers to the brink of extinction. And that danger has not yet passed.

And while all of this was going on, Peter Lawwell made a point with picking a fight with just about everyone in Scotland, from first minister Alex Salmond down, telling them Celtic can prosper without Rangers.

In Scotland?

Well, the always fly as they come Lawwell did not make that clear.

Does Lawwell believe â and does Dermot Desmond also believe â that Celticâs chances of gate crashing the English Premier League are increased without Rangers being part of the deal?

It certainly is coming across that way and a number of shrewd observers, many of then veteran Parkhead and Lawwell watchers, agree with that scenario.

Letâs now return to the Scottish Sun. Remember they broke that original story which looked to have Sun proprietor Rupert Murdochâs fingerprints all over it. Murdoch the Sky owning billionaire, who moves in the same circles as Dermot Desmond, the Celtic owning billionaire.

Many media people have been baffled by the way the Sun have covered the WHYTE SCANDAL, continuing to support conman Whyte long after everyone else had seen him exposed as a huckster.

I cannot recall such a long slow succession of baffling blunders of support for someone like Whyte by a mass circulation national newspaper in my near half century in newspapers. Even some of those inside the Scottish Sunâs Queen Street headquarters canât understand it.

Nobody believes these decisions have been taken by the men on the editorial floor in Glasgow.

By the time the Sun, owned by the same man who owns Sky, Rupert Murdoch, finally edged away from Craig Whyte, the conman was completely exposed as a trickster and a huckster, by a succession of stories brilliantly dug out and produced by the Daily Record.

When the first of those Record exposures broke, had that great old tabloid man , former Sun editor Kelvin McKenzie, been in charge, his famous about turn cry of âreverse ferretâ would have been echoing around the editorial floor.

Whatever the reason â and it is a mystery â the way the Sun have performed could cost them their lead over the Record in the circulation stakes.

But none of the above â no matter how logical and reasoned a number of sane sensible and sober people from the worlds of the media, the law and banking have agreed it is â answers the original question.

Just why did Craig Whyte buy Rangers? Or, indeed, who it is who pays for a man of no visible means to live a lavish lifestyle as though he is the multi millionaire he has provided no proof of being.

It is nonsense to suggest Rupert Murdoch has the answers. Or Dermot Desmond. But does one of them know anyone else, possibly in London, who may be able to provide an answer?

WILLIE COLLUM DEATH THREATS - Exclusive

SO much for those who scoffed at what I wrote yesterday about Celtic trying to escape to English football without Rangers.

For Neil Lennon was quoted all over the Sunday papers saying how he believed Celtic could hold their own in the English Premiership.

While an old mate of mine, Alan Nixon, who is seriously well connected down south, had a Sunday Mirror exclusive which revealed that talks between Celtic and the Championship have actually STARTED.

Maybe I wasn’t quite so far off the mark as ever smart Alec and doubting Thomas thought.

Though given what happened at Hampden yesterday when Kilmarnock beat Celtic 1-0 to lift the Scottish Communities League Cup, those talks with the second tier south of the border are a more realistic assessment of Celtic’s status. Not quite first class.

Certainly Lennon’s interview live on BBC Scotland lacked class as he hammered referee Willie Collum for not awarding Celtic a penalty in the fourth minute of added time.

The BBC studio guests were divided, with ex Celtic man John Hartson insisting it was a clear cut penalty, while Scotland manager Craig Levein insisted with equal certainty that there had been no contact.

After viewing it about a dozen times I agree with Levein. Well, there’s a first time for everything.

I just hope wee Willie, who many sound Scottish soccer judges rate highly, has his local polis station and a glazier on speed dial.

Death threats have alteady started to appear on line with this devout Christian, who teaches RI at a Roman Catholic school branded an "Orange B*****d and a "Hun!"

There's nothing really surprising about that, though.

In the wake of the news that Steve Conroy is chucking it at the end of the season and the prediction that others will follow, I forecast Collum could be one.

Now is has started to get the same treatment other refs who have angered Celtic have had from the enraged Celtic hierarchy and the thuggish so called best fans in the world, then Collum would be well advised to pack it in. For his own and his family’s safety.

The fact is that Celtic’s failure to win the Treble this season, with Rangers weaker than they have been since Celtic came into being, must be regarded as proof they ain’t as good as they think they are. Not by a long way.

Which is why any negotiations to cut and run from Scotland must be more realistically aimed at the Championship, with no guarantee they would get out of it at the first, second or even third attempt. At least, not in the direction they would want to go.

However, to every smart Alec and every doubting Thomas who believe I’ve got the silver cooking foil surrounding LeggoLand, here’s another wee prediction. There will be more straws in the wind about Celtic’s English ambitions.

And eventually, why Craig Whyte bought Rangers and where he gets the money to support his millionaire’s lavish lifestyle, will be revealed.

AND……..

I cannot agree with the sentiments expressed by Rangers supporters about how England gubbing Ireland at rugger and Killie giving Celtic a Cup Final doing spoiled St Patrick’s Day for Celtic fans.

It did, of course. But St Patrick belongs top all of Ireland. In fact, I’ve got a pal – a retired RUC sergeant who is the holder of the Queen’s Police Medal – who always celebrates it. Usually with a few Ulstermen who support Rangers.

For me, the highlight of the St Patrick’s celebrations and what would spoil the Paddywackery for many Celtic supporters, was watching the Duchess of Cambridge – aka the lovely Kate – hand out the Shamrocks to the loyal soldiers of Her Majesty’s Irish Guards.

The young man who will one day become King William, is the colonel-in-chief of the Irish Guards – a honour his great grandmother the late Queen Mum once held – and he wore their scarlet tunic, with his blue RAF Sash, when he was married.

And another two Ulstermen, the manager of Kilmarnock and his son, should also be included.

So there are some things about St Patrick’s Day which the plastic paddies of Parkhead have not yet highjacked.

HERE is how Philmacgiollabhain works. At around 8.30am on Saturday LeggoLand was published and it I predicted that Scottish Football Association president, the utterly honest Campbell Ogilvie, would defend and explain himself in the papers the following day.

About six hours later Philmacgiollabhain was Twittering that he had been tipped off that Ogilvie had done an interview with the Sunday newspapers.

Dear! Dear!

But now that I know that Philmacgiollabhain is a reader, I’ll take care not to use too many big words.

And I wonder how he enjoyed his trip to Hampden yesterday? At the end, all he could see was happy honest Scottish faces from Ayrshire, Burns’ Country, belting out their team's wonderful anthem, Paper Roses.

Not quite how he expected his wee day out in the city of his birth to end, I'll wager.

It's just that he chooses to avoid it when it is Rangers in the ****, instead going off on one of his "Peter Lawwell, the great, great, good, good personal friend of Stewart Regan, the SFA supremo who in no way is nearly as fantastic as the infallible Campbell Ogilvie " rants.

The bitterness in his article is superb.

LENNON MUST FACE CRACKDOWN FROM REGAN'S SFA

STEWART REGAN has been given a golden opportunity to show just how even handed his Scottish Football Association is.

Though his Hampden boardroom pal, Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, no doubt will not approve if the SFA do the right thing..

For SFA chief executive, Regan and the hatchet man he brought in to, Compliance Officer, Vincent Lunny, simply have to crack down hard on the seemingly out of control Celtic manager, Neil Lennon.

After all, lawyer Lunny hasn’t dilly-dallied when it has come to swinging the axe on other clubs – notably Rangers – since he was appointed by the Regan-Lawwell SFA.

Now he has got the chance to show everyone how even handed he is and to convince every one that sauce for the goose is, indeed, sauce for the gander.

In the past I have often tried to find a defence for some of Lennon’s excesses pointing to the personal and professional courtesy he has extended to me in the past. But recently he has stepped over the line on a number of occasions. Some of the things he’s been up to are indefensible.

I still believe that he gets sucked into the vortex of madness and badness which seems to have engulfed the Parkhead club in the last six or seven years and I maintain that much of the madness which swirls around Celtic, damaging the club in England and abroad, including the bigotry of such quasi-para-military groups as the Green Brigade, could be stamped out by head honcho Lawwell.

But the fact is that once again it is Lennon who is out there taking the flak in the firing line, with Lawwell nowhere to be seen or heard.

And there surely must be plenty of the flak coming Lennon’s way from the SFA after his outspoken and outrageous comments about referee Willie Collum’s decision not to award Celtic a penalty in the fourth minute of added time and to book Anthony Stokes for diving.

Unless of course Lunny uses his expertise as a lawyer to overrule Cup Final official Collum’s expertise as a referee and rule that it should have been a spot kick.

That would not surprise me. After all he has already put one whistler in the dock by saying his decision to award a penalty was wrong and the player who went down was not fouled, but dived and must therefore be banned.

Of course the team on the wrong end of Regan’s man, lawyer’s Lunny rewriting of history, was Rangers. No surprise there, then.

Let’s just pause and remember what Lennon said. He called Collum’s decision criminal, adding that it was made worse by booking Stokes for diving.

A chargeable offence?

Surely if any other manager spoke out in such intemperate language is would be. But Lennon may believe being manager of Celtic gives him extra protection from the SFA.

Lennon also went on to speculate that he may speak to referees’ chief John Fleming to get his opinion. I do hope Fleming gives him short shrift. I’m pretty certain his predecessor, Hugh Dallas would have.

But remembering what happened to Dallas, fearing Regan, his boardroom pal Lawwell, along with lawyer Lunny, Fleming may be looking over his shoulder and who could blame him for lending a sympathetic ear to Lennon’s rantings?

Something else Lennon said was not actionable, but was most certainly objectionable and underlined the complete contempt in which he and Celtic hold all the other clubs.

According to Lennon, the decision by Collum which he described as criminal, cost Celtic the Treble.

REALLY?

So if Celtic had been awarded a penalty they were certain to score. And they were then sure things to go on and win in extra time. That's what Lennon meant.

REALLY?

What a contemptuous statement about Kilmarnock, who so deservedly triumphed.

And what about the Scottish Cup? And the sort of opposition Celtic can expect from either St Mirren or Hearts who they will face in the semi finals?

There was not much respect there for either Saints or Hearts, and not a thought for whoever turns up at Hampden on Scottish Cup Final.

According to Lennon they will be there just provide cannon fodder for Celtic. Just as Kilmarnock were supposed to on Sunday. Except they didn’t.

So at least now every other club in Scottish football has been made aware of just how lowly they are regarded by the Celtic manager and by association, looked down on with contempt by Celtic.

Is there anyone who believes Walter Smith would ever have spoken in such a disrespectful way.

Or the late Tommy Burns?For the simple reason they never did.

There isn’t anything Peter Lawwell’s pal and SFA boardroom colleague, Stewart Regan and hatchet man, lawyer Lunny, can do about that.

But they must make sure that justice is blind and deal with Neil Lennon for the comments he made about referee Willie Collum.

WHAT you sow, so shall you reap.

And that was never more true than the harvest which failed for Dundee United when Rangers visited Tannadice on Saturday.

Manager Peter Houston’s team may have won three points, but chairman Steven Thomson’s rantings about Rangers cost his club.

Thomson's Dundee United LOST Â£40,000 on the day.

That is what the unsold 1,800 tickets for the visitors’ stand would have raked in for the hard up Tannadice club. But 1,800 Rangers supporters, unhappy at Dundee United chairman, Thomson, who they see as Peter Lawwell’s poodle, hit him where it hurts.

When the Ibrox team went to Inverness recently the tickets available for the away supporters were sold out. Not so at Dundee United, seen as part of the Celtic cabal.

It is a tactic which Rangers supporters will start using on a regular basis to ensure that no club takes Rangers and their fans for mugs, or is seen to appear to collude with Celtic.

It’s a good tactic too.

He was prowling around the hall in Govan last night when a BBC Five Live debate on Rangers was broadcast.

Check him out on Twitter for identification purposes should he try his wee sleekit trick anywhere where he isn't welcome.

Apparently, 1800 buns avoided Tannadice because they were upset at Thompson's comments and not because Ally's a useless fat moron whose management is a comedy routine.
It'll also become a regular sight as bears show they aren't to be messed with by people and clubs alike.
