I personally think this is chump change. If I were Mike and they came knocking I'd say £25m EACH - I mean howay they paid £50m for Torres!!

Chelsea are planning a £30m raid in the summer to land the Newcastle pair Cheick Tioté and Tim Krul.

Krul and Tioté have been targeted as part of the rebuilding progress at Chelsea that began under Andre Villas-Boas, before he was dismissed earlier this month. His removal, however, will not stop the desire to overhaul the ageing squad at Stamford Bridge and create a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title. Tioté, at 25, has emerged as one of the most dynamic central midfielders in the country. He would offer the kind of defensive strength in that position which was clearly missing during Villas-Boas's ill-fated attempts to play a more expansive game, in line with owner Roman Abramovich's desires.

The Ivory Coast midfielder, who joined from Twente in August 2010, signed an improved contract six months after arriving at St James' Park, making him one of Newcastle's best paid players on around £67,000 per week. Chelsea would offer a significant improvement even on those terms and are prepared to pay around £20m for his signature.

Krul, the 23-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, has enjoyed a fine first full season as a Premier League player since he was handed the starting position at Newcastle by Alan Pardew in the summer. He has emerged as one of the league's most consistent keepers and Chelsea want him as a replacement for Petr Cech.

Krul moved to Newcastle in 2005 from Den Haag when Graeme Souness was in charge, with a tribunal setting his transfer fee at £200,000. His elevation to first choice saw him rewarded with a new five-year contract at the start of this month. However, Chelsea believe that an offer of £10m would be very difficult for Newcastle to turn down and they could potentially offer the player the chance to perform in the Champions League.

Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias admitted recently that they would struggle to hold on to Tioté if any club came forward with a strong offer. That will now come from Chelsea, who have slipped considerably behind Manchester City and Manchester United this season and their battle even to qualify for the Champions League has hastened the desire for change. Ending the season without the title, as seems certain to be the case, would be the fifth time in six seasons that Abramovich has lost out on the league championship.

Liverpool are also long-term admirers of Tioté, having had the player watched before he signed for Newcastle from Twente for a bargain £3.5m. However, the impending return of Lucas Leiva as he recovers from a cruciate knee injury is expected to rule them out of a move. Manchester United have also tracked Tioté's form this season.

Newcastle have sent scouts to watch the highly-rated Dutch midfielder Adam Maher this season as a possible replacement for Tioté. However, they will face a real fight to land one of the most coveted players in the Eredivisie. The AZ Alkmaar 18-year-old has drawn attention from leading Champions League sides since breaking into the first team at the end of 2010.

Yer Tiote starting price is 25mil, and I expect him to go this summer.

Krul I think will stay but hey what do I know.

It was always going to happen that somebody would come calling for them, but £30m for the pair of them is out of the question. Krul is generally accepted as the best keeper in the league and is worth that alone. Tiote is worth another hefty whack but who would we replace them with if they did go?

MA needs to have a good hard think about the future of the club before stripping the assets.

Hmmm... Tiote has 4.5 years remaining on his contract and Krul has just signed a new 5 year contract.

Chelsea have Cech but they also have that Thibault Courtois on loan at Athletico Madrid. He's young and they signed him for big money so I doubt they'll be splashing out on another keeper at this stage. I've heard the most likely destination for Krul is Spurs.

£30m for the pair of them would be the steal of the century. I would expect a fee of £20m-£30m for Tiote and around £20m for Krul. If we can get that for them both I'd understand the club selling them.

LLambias said last week Tiote could be sold so not surprised by these rumours.
If Chelsea put in a bid that Ashley likes we all know both would be on there way to The Bridge.

Would hate for them to be playing against us in our last away game of the season.

In Carr we trust! Given our recent transfer success, £45 million should be able to push us onto the next level (Tiote = 25, Krul = 20)...I know it sounds harsh that we have to sell, but if it means that this will move the club forward, then it may not be so bad (one step back, 2 steps forward)

Hopefully anyway. They're both going to be hard to replace though.

Whilst I agree Krull is a very good keeper, I don't rate him as the best, I would say Joe Hart has the edge over Krull.

If someone offered £30m for Krul, then Ashley (or anyone else) wouldn't have to think very long.

Tiote isn't worth anywhere near £25m, and Krul isn't worth £20m come to that.

The £30m was for the pair of them, a derisory offer in most peoples minds.

30mil for both? Haha keep dreaming, Tiote I would probably let go for around 20, he's good but he's had a very poor season blighted by injury and poor form, but Krul is worth an absolute **** load now especially since he just signed a contract. One of the best young keepers in the world. It'd take nearly double that to prise them both away.

Hart certainly does have the edge over Tim. Krul can be anything he wants and potential wise is as good as any. But he still has plenty to learn. I'm still not sure if it is him or Pardew making us go long all the time, but whichever it is, it needs to stop. We start every game positive playing football properly, we have one defensive scare and start pumping it, inviting the other team back into the game in the process.

Generally his kicking needs to improve and he needs to be more confident playing out from the back. Saying that, I'd want 15m minimum for his services.

AB even I had a little chuckle at Krul being 'generally accepted' as the best keeper in the league!! One day perhaps, but not yet imho.

I'd say 45million for the pair is nearer the mark but I can see Jabba accepting nearer 37.5million and getting in two replacements for 15 million leaving him with a tasty profit of over 20million.
