Anyone see the documentary tonight about Internet trolls?

Richard Bacon came across as a decent bloke but by God there are some ****ing mentaloids out there.

Cretins who target RIP pages of dead children and the like, posting sexually explicit abuse about the dead and altering images to show the deceased hanging etc.

It was also saying if you aggravate one if these arseholes they clone your ID and send out toxic and abusive stuff under your username. This is often on RIP pages and the stuff they post
    is utterly vile.

Scary stuff, no wonder I stay clear of social networking.

Makes Erik look like Ghandi, not literally but you know what I mean.

I made a few Gary Speed hanging pictures for this site, but I wouldn't hunt down a wee kid's 'RIP' page

The internet is gradually starting to police itself, you see this with Twitter where the scumbags are being caught and sentenced. The trouble is this keyboard warrior mentality people with low self-esteem have whereby they think they are safe to write any disgusting stuff they want as 'its just the internet and nobody knows it's me' in my book they are all cowards lacking any kind of decency, that kid writing that disgusting crap about Muamba should get the maximum sentence, when I read the full transcript of that on Saturday I was sick to the stomach. I've seen it on here too, pathetic beyond words, that's why I keep on the Hull City or F1 part of this site and don't bother with general chat, so many absolute morons posting complete ****e.

It offends me that some of the users on here tell me I'm a "sick racist" because I post the odd joke about a minority group. Don't group me with this guy.

Just thought I'd get that in there before the inevitable complaints about me start <laugh>

Cloning id's and creating fake accounts is a long standing problem that still occurs. One example that springs to mind happened before our game against Cardiff a few seasons back.

A group of fans of another Club registered on the Cardiff site as City fans and posted abuse, including comments about Aberfan in an attempt to whip up animosity from the Cardiff lads towards City fans.

Fortunately they were so thick they posted about it on their own site and had already got no support from City fans for their comments so it backfired.

After listening to the two trolls that were tracked down it struck me that they had the same character traits as ****philes.

Trying to defend and justify their indefensible behaviour. They came across as socially lacking and just plain odd.

Then again what do you expect?

I watched the show, I thought it was good.

Think Nick hits the nail on the head here - low self esteem. I find it's the root cause of many of our problems, people trying to 'prove' themselves or take revenge etc. If people are just comfortable in themselves, then they would see no need to try and trample on others.

There was some attempt at justification from the trolls. For example, if someone dies and a Facebook RIP page is set up, they find it infuriating that a stranger might go on there and express sorrow. They say "they're just trying to look better than everyone else". Personally, I think it might just be because they're genuinely nice people. But anyway, this often leads the troll to make counter posts of as an extreme a variety as they can muster. Usually to make people laugh.

They say "it's just the same as someone who didn't know the family posting something nice, except the other side of the coin". Except it's not is it. Because a nice message from a stranger causes no distress to the deceased's family. If anything, it might comfort them slightly.

Whereas a troll's abuse is likely just to enflame huge anger, or extreme distress. Two people who didn't know the deceased, two totally different reactions caused. One cannot justify the other. Why hit people like that when the pain and emotion is the rawest?

It is done by life's losers. We could see that when he confronted that odious little weasel in Manchester, that racist keyboard warrior. He was somewhat less confident in the words he used in person. "I told you I do not want to partake, and I don't wish to". Good for you. You ****. A ****er of the highest order. And a rat. They think it's anonymous, so they think they can be brave. It's as pathetic as it gets.

    Good program though.

Good program. The idiots doing the trolling do seem to be outcasts, like the people who got bullied at school getting their own back in their own weird way. It's low to write such things. Sad people.
