Kyrgiakos finally set for Sunderland debut

Sotirios Kyrgiakos looks set to finally make his Sunderland debut on Tuesday night as manager Martin O'Neill aims to keep his side's European hopes alive.

The former Liverpool defender has been on loan from German side Wolfsburg since January but unable to break into the starting line-up.

The Sunderland boss travels to Blackburn with injury doubts over Phil Bardsley, Seb Larsson and Kieran Richardson, and has Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole suspended.

Greece is the word: Former Liverpool centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos (right)

O'Neill said: 'Sotirios has not moaned in training at all and he's been with us all the way and cheering the team on and I wouldn't mind throwing him in. It will be his kind of battle and he's done fine in training.'

looking forward to seeing him play

He can't be a bad player considering the clubs he has played for! At the very least, he is very good back up! He will do well for you (hopefully not too well <yikes>)

Who would be dropped?? I think Turner and O'Shea have been on fine form together.

If Bardo is out suppose that means O'Shea could go RB...but then again he was shocking at RB during the beginning of the season, I would rather Gardner play there and Vaughan play along side Colback.

Turner & O'Shea have been superb, and look to be building a great understanding, but then, we have a few big games coming up, and some possible fixture congestion.

Ideal game to give us a look at the big fella!

I'm a believer of not changing the central defensive partnership when they are playing well and Turner and O'Shea are.

Unless one of them are injured of need a rest then fine but for the sake of changing it just to give people a chance is a no no for me

Gardner at RB and Vaughan into the midfield IMO

    What Killa at RB??

Don't you think that is a bit of a gamble, he is left footed.

Maybe it will be O'Shea RB.....god hope not though.

I have to be honest and say when I saw him for Livepool he looked crap, just my observation. Not impressed at all, hope he proves me wrong.

I know he played at LB before, but not RB...

O'Shea has to stay at CB for me, unless O'Neil thinks he needs to rest his broken hand.

Gardner at RB, Bridge at LB.

Think the bold bit is the operative part of the statement - there were a few who were shocking at the beginning of the season - I agree our defence has looked solid (other than WBA) so not sure how I would play this one - he's a big lad though and good in the air - particularly from Corners etc.

If Larsson, Ricco, Bardo, Sess and Catts are all out then surely we're only playing a reserve team!! - Strength in Depth lads - something we have to some extent..

We have 5 players out through injury or suspension and I still think we can get something - hope it doesn't turn out to be another West Brom!

    So he's a C/B....

His inclusion could cause some problems....bare with me...

He plays C/B, so who plays R/B? O'Shea...was ****e there, Elmo...give me fooking strength...down to the bare bones, we are left with Gardner, who did well, but is a much better midfielder...

Does this Kriagos get a shot at the R/B position, one which people have stated he's fairly un-familiar with?

He may well play, but where is yet to be revealed.

p's....i may learn to spell his name one day.

I'd be worried about him coming up against Yakubu the form he is in as he doesn't seem to be the quickest - I would much rather have O'Shea marking him and Turner taking the first ball.
