That is one I would love to know. If the BBC outperform SKY every race then will sky question broadcasting it and justify its own channel?

I'm sure they won't stop broadcasting it, but I don't think it'll be too long before they start questioning the wisdom of having an entire channel.

I don't think this article from Gary Anderson has been posted yet, but I was very impressed with it. Certainly a win for the BBC in my opinion. Hopefully we'll see an article from Anderson after each race.

I wouldnt be suprised if Sky didnt get as much as the Beeb in the first few races. People like me, watched them both and i feel like alot of people would have done. I think after one more week of both, i'll stick with whoever is best for me (Most likely Sky)

I preferred the BBC coverage as it was -2011(2010 had the better post race forum), and still find it better than SKY's coverage. But as my favourite two commentators Croft and Brundle has moved over, even if they are yet not fully synchronized, and because SKY is easier to stream for me, I will most probably watch everything on SKY live and then catch the re-run on BBC iPlayer.

I don't think it's a question of "if the BBC outperform Sky." The BBC should have significantly better figures than Sky for all sorts of reasons. I don't know what percentage of the BBC audience Sky would have to achieve for them to consider it a success but I would think if they get half it would be well beyond their expectations. Sky can easily afford to bankroll the F1 channel from existing subscriptions and, outside of race coverage, the channel must be fairly cheap to run since it's mostly repeats and pre-existing content.

Can anyone dispute that the BBC's coverage is better?

I'm watching the Beeb for every live race they get this season.

This is 45% because of The Chain, which just gets me going for every race...

another 50% because of David Croft, who sounds really, really annoying.

And just the little bit left because of the lack of adverts.

    BBC <ok>

    45% because of the chain?

a minor part of a song by Fleetwood mac that has a minor part on the show has 45% percent of your interest??

Why not pay 79p to get The Chain onto an ipod and listen to it through the opening sky credits if it makes that big difference!

I was a little dissapointed with the opening Sky race coverage, it just felt disjointed but that may improve over the coming weeks. Brundle does seem a little distant in his input compared with last year and I'm not much for Croft, I think they missed a trick not bringing DC across aswell.

However, although just highlights, I thought the BBC was also less impressive than the previous year and maybe we have just ruined a succesful format rather than adding to it? I'm neither here nor there on the lead anchor role because they are both unsuitable and dont play a significant enough role to warrant a discussion on it, but the technical side of the team seems to have been fragmanated abit.

i think sky could learn alot fro finishing the race with something similar to the red button which was successful in the BBC. In adddition I have been dissapointed with Sky channel post race and thought things like th Ted Kravitz blog would have been a progamme feature with more technical insight into the race?

Why is Georgie Thompson there!!!!!! Maybe I'm missing something but in about 3 hours she said maybe 8 words?

Sky being live gives them an advantage, but the pre-race build up was dour in my opinion.

So we're all complaining about the ads on sky, would there still be the same complaints if C4 had managed to get the split deal instead?

It's only the beeb that has the luxury (or in todays world is it now a financial handicap?) of not having ads throught the coverage of the event.

Wherever F1 went, ads would be an issue.

Agreed. She has just looked trashy.

Nice if you're into that, but out of place in F1 analysis!

to be honest getting up at 4:30 am with a hangover after St Patricks day and the rugby the day before I was hardly in a position to compare the coverage. However a big win for Sky was having the extra feeds all available via the sky player on my laptop. I used to use my iPad with the FIA app that costs £20 for the year but now the sky app is much better and free, well worth having on along with the TV coverage.

Agree on the Georgie Thompson front though, thought I'd strayed to Babe Station live on a few occasions.
