The way I see it, Warnock can handle having just Snoddy and give us the ability to be solid and resilient while also able to make chances (even if we do fluff them). But if we lose Snoddy, and have no replacement, I'm not sure what to expect for next season. Believe in Colin I guess.
We're not making enough chances at the moment, and agreed, the ones that we do make we're predominantly fluffing. Warnock needs to find the right balance, which is bloody difficult given the players we've got. Grayson took that squad in one direction, Warnock's taken it just a little bit in the other. If Snodgrass and Clayton don't get their contracts extended, our creativity will dry up even further, and with it the imbalance will increase. We need to keep these players if we're to avoid goalless hoofery.
I personally think we've lost a lot of our creative flair due to having to switch things around to make up for a substandard defence. On weeks where Grayson focused on the defence in training after a terrible result, we'd either draw, or grind out a 1-0, such as against Leicester City. It's not rocket science to work out we can be good at one or the other with the team we've got, but not both, because we're not good enough.
I honestly believe that if we had a striker capable of holding play up we would be considerably better balanced and much more likely to be able to score as well as defend properly. But doesn't matter what I say, everyone will always rave on about how good Becchio is
When you say he has done/does well for us, in what sense do you mean that? In fairness to the lad, he gets goals, they are all tap-ins but he has to be in the right position. Other than that, he provides nothing for the team imo. Everyone said he played well against Boro and I thought differently. I havn't read any views on his game against West Ham yet but I guarantee people are saying he had a good game but again I thought he was ****. The ball goes up to him, and everytime he either loses the header or somehow controls the ball only to turn into danger and inevitably lose the ball. Im tired of fans sticking up for him, he loses possesion 95% of the time it goes near him. He slows down the attach when we are on the break, his shooting from outside the area is one of the worst from any striker I have ever seen. His headers don't go where you want them to, he makes no runs whatsoever. The thing I used to say about him was that at least he chases the ball down and puts in the hard work but he doesn't do that anymore either. I have never seen a player so overrated by fans, replace him with anyone, I actually think he hinders the team
Middlesborough, he created one of the goals and I thought had a solid game. Yesterday, he scored, not one of his better games in my opinion, but no one else scored, did they?
Which goal did he create against Middlesborough. Are you talking about the one he scored for himself where he passed the ball straight to there defender. I'd say McCormack created that by chasing a lost cause. To me that was Becchio giving the ball away in a promising attack. And JLA, just because no one else scored doesn't mean you play him. You never know if you didn't have someone upfront losing the ball constantly we may have been able to create chances for other people to score. Im grateful for his goals but his overall play is diabolical
I don't recall him creating another one. Being in the right place is a big part of scoring, but how many players in great places miss? With respect, I believe your evaluation is naive.
His overall play was superb in League One. It was still excellent in a different role last season in the Championship. Now he's got the goals back, he will start contributing more this season, and will be firing on all cylinders next season once he's got a full recovery and pre-season under his belt. Give the bloke a break; him and Snodgrass are as close as Leeds United heroes as we can get in this day and age.
Becchio been great recently. Josh - you are asking for a player to hold the ball up and pass it on; that is exactly what Becchio has been doing the last few games. Prior to that the ball was bouncing off him, he was falling on the ground, he was trying to control the ball but losing it under pressure. You are being very harsh on him, he is improving every game.
I disagree, gives the ball away 95% of the time. Very poor player in my eyes and we can do considerably better. As I said, fans completely overrate him because he is a likeable character
"I disagree, gives the ball away 95% of the time." Is that your opinion or did you count 19 times out of 20 times or any other combination that comes out at 95%?
funnily enough that is my opinion and not factual in any way whatsoever. It may be a slight exaggeration but only slight. It seriously wouldn't surprise me if it was near that number
without becchio we'd be ****ed. paynter or forssell could not do half the job he does. with defenders like collins up his arse all game i dont expect him to win all the headers
Neither do I however at least win some headers and when he has the ball at his feet I expect him to keep the ball at least most of the time but he still gives it away. He's poor, but unfortunately as you say Forssell and Paynter are no better
Josh, if I thought it would do any good, I would keep count for the next televised game. However, given responses I get when presenting data on othe threads, it is clear to me that once posters make up their minds their can be no changing them. This game is all about opinions, some valid others not, eh?
Josh, bear in mind that if you look for faults, you will find them. It could be that all around Beccio are making more mistakes, but you don't hate them enough to examine them closely. Let's face it - you've had a downer on him all season, exacerbated by your love of Keogh (and the consequent tanking you've taken on the board for it). We all know he's not perfect, nor has he played at his best, however, only Keogh kept him out the team (for a short while), and no-one else. And Keogh ain't here anymore... I am confident that NW would replace him if he thought it necessary, or if he had a better replacement. He hasn't. Roll your neck in until next season & leave the poor bloke alone.
