Aside from McLaren and Red Bull being dominant, this season already promises much in the way of competitiveness in the midfield. Today we saw a Williams going head to head with a well driven Ferrari, a resurgent Lotus charging through the field, and Sauber being Sauber. That's not including Mercedes, Toro Rosso and FI. Thats 7 teams all separated by a matter of tenths. We could have some very interesting results this season, assuming Ferrari don't improve too much, and Mercedes don't fix the tyre wear issue. What do you think, and who's looking in the best shape of the midfield teams?

On early evidence, Lotus are in the best shape right now, but Mercedes seem the most likely to break through and join the front runners.

I went Williams. Coughlan is a good designer and developer, plus Pastors oil money could come in handy.

I'm sorry, they were in the midfield, so they are midfield teams at the moment. if you don't like it, get over it.

I would say Mercedes and Ferrari aren't, but Lotus are.

    3rd on the grid?

Those 3 are not midfield on pace anyway, even if the result was poor. (maybe Ferrari are, depending on if you look at massa or alonso)

    Voted Sauber.

So if Button and Hamilton had had issues today and finished 5th and DNF they would have been a midfield team?

Anyway, what don't I like? I was merely explaining my vote. Whether I like your interpretation of 'midfield' or not is completely irrelevant, as is your likings of my interpretation of it. And if you don't like that, well...

    No, because they had been consistently quick all weekend and through testing, and are historically a top team. Right, i shall explain my reasoning, in simple language for simpletons such as yourself;

Ferrari - Poor car, spent the entire weekend in te midfield, looks like they'll be there in KL too.
Mercedes - Tyre wear issues, making them have to race the midfield, hence a midfield team
Lotus - Never a top team with Boullier in charge

    Happy now?

It is just one race, if they have a bad race next race are they midfield then, what about if they get a podium after that are they back up to a top team? I think you have to establish a general trend to move up or down a tier.

How I define it is how you perceive their results. Such as if Lotus come 5th then that is a decent result, if Mclaren come 5th then it is nothing brilliant, if Mercedes come 5th then it is pretty solid.

For me Mercedes and Ferrari are top-tier teams along with McLaren and RedBull 'A'
ForceIndia, Sauber, Lotus and the RedBull 'B' team are the mid-rankers and Williams, Caterham, HRT and Marussia are Tier-3.
Ferrari have problems (their upgrades due for SpanishGP in May are so severe that they are a new car that will have to be crash-tested all over again) so within the terms of the question Mercedes is the only possible answer I can see.

If it considered only truly mid-rank teams I would have gone for Lotus.

What have they done to be considered top teams? Built consistently **** cars, employ **** drivers (Alonso excluded) and generally make arses of themselves. Thats not a top team.

In the sweepstakes we have four tiers and for good reason, IMO. Based on that, plus a bit of wishful thinking and my own bias, I've gone for Williams.

Based on this one race though, it doesn't look like the four tiers are even, in fact there are five!

    McLaren, Red Bull

    Ferrari, Williams, Lotus, Mercedes

    Sauber, Toro Rosso, Force India

    Caterham, Marussia

And HRT in a tier of their own!

    All IMHO, of course ;)

Fixed, if we're being pedantic. They're pretty even with Ferrari on pace.

Seriously, what is it you don't get? I was explaining my vote and weather we agree on the definition of a midfield team is IRRELEVANT. I don't care to like or not like your interpretation and I do not care what you think of mine. So as you put it your self, get over it.

They where fast all weekend? Sure.
Are you claiming that Mercedes and Lotus was not?

And you are seriously using testing to classify teams as midfield or not? Seriously?

At the same time you claim their history of being at the top?
Yes Red Bull have such a long great history of being at the top whilst Ferrari and Lotus are fairly unmentioned in the history of the sport. (this is called irony)
Did you start watching F1 three years ago?

There are no need for name calling here, only makes you look even more immature. This whole discussion is just ridiculous and unless you want to do it constructively and friendly I shall continue no more.

Yea I am fairly happy now. Have a good evening.

Decent car, but they'll need better drivers than Kermit and someone who is distantly related to someone good if they want to beat the competition.
