I thought we were excellent in the second half, and probably deserved a point. Much better than the first half where we tapped it around to each other at the back, only for Ward or Whitbread to hoof it up aimlessly. Much improved performance from last week, so lets take that on to next week and get the three points needed to be 95% sure we'll be safe. As for Morison, I would say it was a frustrating performance, as he would do three or four good things on the bounce and look like he was getting into the game, only to go quiet for five to ten minutes and have absolutely no input in the game (whether that was his fault, I don't know). Come on you Yellars.
Well a disappointing result and I thought we deserved a draw. A few good things: Ruddy- not that it's news Bennett- looking ever sharper Howson- I thought he was great. Much more assured than last time he played, his first shot was not far off at all and although he gave the ball away quite a bit in the first half, he improved and I think he just needs a bit of time to get used to the pace. Some not so good things: Surman- has been quite anonymous these last few games Morison- his talents and failings have been done to death, but there were several occasions where he was just in totally the wrong place. Why, for example, was he on the edge of the box for one of the corners? Drury- in defence, he is class. His one-on-one tackling is obviously very good. However, his passing/crossing is getting worse and worse. I've said it before, but will say it again, we desperately need Tireney back, Drury is only a stop-gap. The centre-backs- Whitbread didn't have his best game I felt, but has been great most of the season so I can forgive him a bad game. Ward is an excellent tackler, but he has the turning circle of an aircraft carrier and gets pulled out of position. Every time either of them got the ball today I was gulping. Why have we bought a new centre-back, paying a record fee for him and yet not playing him? I think he needs to replace Ward.
I know, but one was against a hoofball team, and against Wigan we started brightly, but sat back after we'd scored. I just think with a couple of wide players, 2 up front gives us that little bit more, and I would choose Jackson over Morison because of his pace.
From what I saw today, I think Howson and Fox could play in the middle with Bennett and Pillkington out wide. It sounds a little light weight, but we know we're not a defensive team...
Exactly. Up until the last 3 or 4 games, clean sheets haven't been a problem. The goal scoring is what has got us to the good position we are in.
Just leave him, dave. We were unlucky not to get a point away to a team that are fighting for a European place. At the start of the season, we would of been happy to finish in 17th place by goal difference, so the fact that we will more than likely finish no lower than 15th speaks volumes as to how well we've done, especially with all these players that everybody wrote off before they even kicked a ball.
Yawn, I'm not going to be affected by the fans of 2 pub teams of, frankly, comparable size and significance. Minnows are always going to mock the big teams like us.
Just to put a smile back on your sulking Budgie faces tonight, I give you this...
