Howdy folks, Lets have a discussion on childhood football hero's. Who was every ones favorite football hero when they were a child? Mine, being younger than a fair few on here, was Michael Owen (so tragic). The country was Owen crazy when I was a child at primary school, and early secondary school (though my favorite player had changed to Gerrard about the time he became captain). I had Owen posters, toys, always picked him first on Fifa and used to pretend I was him when playing football. Gerrard was my second hero, and I guess my current hero, and I also have the posters, toys and a shirt to match. Of course now I feel pure discust when ever I see him in a United shirt, but that's natural. Also, who remembers these?!?!
Yeah I had the head things too! I remember having Phil Babb and Barnes! For me it was, and still is, Robbie Fowler!! please log in to view this image
I have a Robbie Fowler doll some where, like an action man sort of thing. You could swap the heads and fits to change would it is. It came with a Dominic Matteo head as well. I also got a David Beckham head with a England shirt around 98. That did stay out for long.
Ian Rush..... Infact my Love of Liverpool started when I was about 5-6. My uncle told me Ian Rush was his drinking buddy, I became a massive Rush and Liverpool fan.....It was only in later years that I realised what he had told me wasnt true.....Too late though, with Liverpool I was smitten.....
Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.. I didn't follow football much up until around 2006 where I pretty much made it part of my daily life so the heroes are quite recent. Steven Gerrard, will never forget that name
Ian Rush My Scouse Uncle got me supporting Liverpool much to the consternation of my Dad who was from Sunderland. When we moved up there my Dad took me to Roker to try & convert me; stuck a Sunderland scarf on me for my safety lol. unfortunately for him it was against Liverpool & Rushie destroyed them. My first footy match; only kid with a big grin on my face as I sat with my legs through the barrier as Rush blew past me. My Dad was not amused but gave up hope lol.
showing my age, but has to be Ian Callaghan... workrate of Kuyt, and talent that Downing can only dream of!!!
Peter Thompson. Used to visit his pub in the Lake District regularly, along with thousands of other Reds - it was like an LFC shrine with a view. GKRK
This ^^ My idol growing up. Later it was God / McManaman, then Owen / Gerrard; but in the beginning it was John Barnes.
Bit of an odd one but I was always Jamie Redknapp in the playground at school... Although Fowler is and always will be a hero!
Jamie Redknapp was actually my first favourite, but I didnt worship him like I did Owen. When I was a child my comfort blanket so to speek was a Jamie Redknapp cap, which I wore all the time, even some times in bed. One of my saddest childhood memories is going swimming whilst on holiday and returning to the changing rooms to see it was gone, never to be seen again. I'd still to this day love that hat back.
