Completely agree. But like I said, that was inexperience and complacency in defence - players like De Gea, Jones and Smalling were not only playing in the competition for the first time, but also playing in defence together for the first time. They were always going to make errors whilst getting used to each other, but unfortunately while you can get away with errors like that in the PL they are punished in Europe. We did enough going forwards to beat Basel at home and draw with them away, but defensive errors turned that into a draw and loss and we went out.

Tho' it's worth noting that whilst Basel collapsed in Germany, they beat Bayern 1-0 in Switzerland. Which is a victory by exactly the same margin they beat us in the group stage.

According to swarbs winning the club world cup (mickey mouse tin pot) counts the same as winning the champions league (most prestigous competion in club football). Surely to be the best in England you have to own your own Champions league trophy?
