They went on a run, sneaked in to 6th, and got promoted. I have no intention of stating that we have much probability to do that at all, but it is possible, especially as we are 4 points ahead of that and we are playing some solid stuff. Others will find it very difficult to beat us, but have we got anything in the locker that means we can win games?
It will go down to the last game of the season, Festa at LS11 for last game, 88mins on the clock... Casper mishandles Ross Mac pounces...play offs. Watched the Lads live out here yesterday, they have got belief within them selves, hunt the ball down as a unit, good team effort alround..... the goal celebration says it all..... C'MON LEEDS one last push.
It's the hunting down and the tigerish midfield that really takes some getting used to, lol. Should not take much more to develop creatibvity when we have White, Webber, McCormack and Snoddy available, with Somma to come back yet.
That's where I'd disagree. White's not a creative player at all, and his crossing is generally poor. He has to cut inside and square it to be in with a chance of creating anything. Fair play, he did do that at Boro. Webber's shown he's a live wire, but I don't think he's going to be a creative asset for 90 minutes ever. McCormack looked quite lost yesterday, and thrives off the service of others far more than he does from giving it to them himself. Somma is a greedy, predatory kind of striker. Not an ounce of creativity in him, as far as I can tell. Not that that's entirely a bad thing. We definitely need more creativity in our team, and a new winger next season is in order. This team can huff and puff, which I adore, but we're not going to get promoted with what we've got now, even if Warnock motivates the **** out of them. Blackpool's side had class in Charlie Adam and invested well in their squad. Sadly, I think we're still a way off that, and we're not looking like we'll get the rub of the green in our upcoming fixtures.
I think our team is at least equally as good as that Blackpool team. Under Colin we've more than matched the 2 best teams in the division yet somehow only come away with 1 point, because of a goalkeeping miracle performance and a poor, shouldn't have been allowed, goal from a corner (combined with a wrongly disallowed goal for us). We do need a touch more creativity though, Snoddy, McCormack and Clayton can't be relied on week in week out.
Comparable league Tables at this stage of the season: P W D L F A GD Pt 2009 - 2010 6 Cardiff City 36 16 7 13 59 45 14 55 7 Sheffield United 37 14 10 13 52 49 3 52 8 Doncaster Rovers 37 13 12 12 49 45 4 51 9 Blackpool 37 13 11 13 53 47 6 50 2011 - 2012 6 Middlesbrough 36 16 11 9 43 40 3 59 7 Hull City 36 16 10 10 37 28 9 58 8 Cardiff City 37 15 13 9 54 47 7 58 9 Brighton and H 37 16 10 11 45 39 6 58 10 Leeds United 37 15 9 13 55 50 5 54 Very similar situation except: - Blackpool were 9th, Leeds is 10th, - Blackpool had 2 teams within 2 points, Leeds have 3 teams 4 points away, - Blackpool needed 1 team to slip up in a big way, Leeds needs 4 to slip up in a big way, - one team had a game in hand over Blackpool, two teams have agame in hand over Leeds. Not impossible, but a big ask. Anyone want to compare how many teams above them each team had/have to play in the last 10 games?
It isn't impossible but is a big ask and I really can't see it happening. Lack of creativity seems to be costing us
Did the predictor, Leeds finish 8th two points adrift. Tough away games coming up including Cardiff and Reading, we realistically have to win eight games, can't see that happening but next season we will up there challenging for auto if Colin gets to buy who he wants.
Billy, when Blackpool did it, they played the 4 bottom clubs at this stage in the run-in. Our lowest placed opponent is Florist - 5th from bottom, albeit 1 spot higher due to Pompey's deduction. They had to play Newcastle towards the end when Toon had already clinched the title. Our run in is much more difficult than theirs was. However, one never knows, just don't expect anything, in fairness to all concerned.
