Reina - makes mistakes, a lot more now than last season or previous seasons. Kelly - decent young right back. Still learning so we'll have to see, isn't the best atm though Carragher - past it, old, offers good leadership Skrtel - quality centre back, wins a lot of headers, quite pacy as well Agger - same with skrtel, doesn't win enough challenges i feel, however is quick and confident on the ball Enrique - good signing, quick strong and agile, not a lot of end product though Johnson - best attacking full back in league, not as good defensively. Would be best at right wing/mid Lucas - was not sure of him a few seasons back, but has turned himself into one of the most promising young cm's in the league. Good passing, vision and tackles are getting better Gerrard - not as good as he was, but he is the captain who can still score and make amazing goals Adam - rubbish. Good passing and vision, however he fails to pass a lot and wants to hog the ball a bit too much imo Henderson - do not rate him that highly, however he is only young so who knows, i do think he will get a lot better. However atm he is giving too many balls away and not making correct decisions on the ball. Spearing - decent, however offers nothing attacking wise nor defensive either. Sideways passer, however saying this he doesnt give the ball away too often. Downing - no end product at all. I would sell him in the summer and buy another winger similar to Valencia, Nani, Mata Kuyt - great fitness and stamina, skill wise however he lacks. Saying this though he can score goals when he gets the chance Suarez - yeah i believe he is just inconsistent a bit. Very skillful though when on form, can take on 3 - 5 players in one run. Definately a keeper unless the right price comes (PSG links i am talking here) Carroll - only young as well, very strong and competitive, however he needs to work on positioning and foot work. what do you guys think?!
You love the sticky feature now don't you Bow? To get back to the OP's article, i'll address the points mirin has made after the match.
I think you dont like Liverpool very much. You have managed to highlight all weaknesses without mentioning any of the positives. Not a very objective article imo.
Usually when people focus on the positives, the wums turn up to say how deluded we are about our 'top quality' players. At least this way he's beaten them to it!
I disagree with to much of this, and it certainly shouldnt be sticked. This isnt a squad analysis, its a list of weaknesses, ignoring all strength. How it should be. Reina - Highly rated goal keeper, considered by many as the best in the league. This season he has made a few out of character mistakes, and has at times shown a firing temper. But Reina is a strong shot stopper and a great leader figure in the Liverpool side. This is much more balanced and fair. This should be across the whole squad.
Defence. Reina - Highly rated goal keeper, considered by many as the best in the league. This season he has made a few out of character mistakes, and has at times shown a firing temper. But Reina is a strong shot stopper and a great leader figure in the Liverpool side. Johnson - Strong and quick attacking full back. Works the line well and provides an added goal threat from the back. Has been inconsistant at the back in the past, but is having his best season defensively since he signed. Enrique - Again a strong and quick attacking full back. Gets down the line well and adds some much need midth to the team. Good defensively, but has been known to loose the man he is marking at times. Skrtel - Solid defender who is strong both on the ground and in the air. Works hard and takes no nonsense. He is a very trustworthy defender. Has a good shot to and is a goal threat from set pieces. Agger - Like Skrtel, Agger is a top defender. He is quick and good against quick strikers. He is comfortable and has a powerful left foot. Unfortunately a little to injury prone. Carragher - Experienced and a great servent to LFC. A great leader. Has lost pace in recent years and has lost his regular starting place this season. Kelly - A local player, Kelly came through the LFC ranks to the first team. He is not a regulur starter yet, but has had plenty of runs in the team and has become a big member of the squad. Good defensively and improving going forward. Still young and still has a lot to learn. He can be a little rash at times. Coates - Young and yet to have a run in the team. Some times h is sound, some times nervous. Its to early to judge, but he arrived at LFC with a great reputation.
Yeah I'd agree with that! Nice work. Our defence has been a real positive this season. If we can sort out the midfield and a partner for Suarez, then we will be competitive. Will take a few years though.
I honestly think Skrtel is turning in to our most important player, I'd love to see the percentage of challenges won this season for him, doesn't miss a thing, the mans a beast.
http://www.anfieldindex.com/5246/skrtel-agger-carragher-battle-centre.html 84% tackle success (second to Kompany), 77% aerial success (behind only Lescott and Terry), 70% ground 50/50 success (second only to King) along with 82% pass success. Not too shabby!
Midfield Gerrard - Captain fantastic and mr Liverpool are two common taglines given to Gerrard. Injuries have cast a shadow over him over the ppast couple of seasons, but flashes have shown that the great player is still in there. Gerrard is a great player and great captain, and has proved it year after year. He needs to have freedom to get forward to show his very best skills. Lucas - Solid, calm, confident and dedicated. One of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Breaks up opposition play very well, and does all the simple stuff brilliantly. He allows the rest of the midfield freedom to play. Adam - He has good ball skills but is to keen in showing it. He loves his long passes, but needs to refine his approach. Teamed with the right parter, Adam can be a good attacking tool. Henderson - Young, but very mature for his age. He is very dedicated. He still has plenty to learn though, and can be a little rash. Could become a top player. Spearing - Does the much needed simple things very well. Strong tackler, neat passer and loves the club. Allows team mates freedom to play. A very useful player. Downing - inconsistant but has performed in two important games. Adds pace, but his end product hasn't been good enough on many occasions. Needs another season before we judge his future.
Nice mate. It's amazing how much better he is in 1 year! He was so shakey last year but is now possibly our best defender!
Well stat wise, he's the best central defender in the league overall. Says alot about his development when a few seasons ago, I was petrified watching him make challenges in our box. Such a quality player now.
Forwards Suarez - Skill full, creative, great on the ball. Plays for himself at times, but is generally a good team player, with a great assist record. Needs to ease his temper and keep his voice down with referees. He has begun to link up very well with Gerrard, which will be great for the team. Carroll - Has had a hard time since signing but has shown improvement lately, performing better, getting involved, and just needs more goals. He will get there, he just needs time and the right support. Great left foot and reflexes, and most importantly, strength. Kuyt - Hard working and dedicated. Performs on the big occasions. Important player. His versatility is very useful to. Bellamy - Good player, Adds energy, pace and experience. He has over come some tempers from the past and sets a great example. He would start most games if his fitness was better. I am glad we have him.
A thread on our squad members performances when they play on a scale of 0-5(booby prize of a kick in the plums for zero)might be better,we give our opinion and it could be a good debate(wums excluded)over whats left of the season. 5-Excellent 4-good 3fair 2-below average 1-piss poor 0-kick in the plums
