Wenger tends to give some players way too many chances. So who do we kick out and why? 1. Abou Diaby. We've all seen him play well, we've all seen him play terribly way more. This doesn't look like changing any time soon. He gets caught in possession, doesn't work hard to win it back, seems to never be in the right position to attack or defend, and drifts through games in sleep-mode. 4 million. 2. Johan Djourou. He showed signs of getting good, then got worse. Right now he is our worst defender, and I cringe every time I see him in the line-up or coming off the bench. 3 million. 3. Nicklas Bendtner. Another player who never filled his potential. If Sunderland want him we should offload. Lets sell anyway because I'm sure some Bundesliga teams will want this donkey. 4 million. 4. Marouanne Chamakh. I'd much rather use Park, and we have Podolski in anyway. 5m 5. Squillaci. Obviously not good enough. Song or Miguel can play in the middle anyway. 1m 6. Gervinho or Arsharvin. With Podolski taking the left side of attack, where will Gervinho go? Out the door possibly, or maybe Arsharvin wants to leave? Personally, I'd rather keep Arsharvin. Annoyingly, with that assist in his final game (beautiful cross for RVP), I think he was actually finding his form again. Oh well. 10m. Total 27m. Bring in Goetze, Podolski and Vertonghen for about 45m, and there... not having to spend much are we?
Agree with this and I think the club does to, the way things are going. Everyone is way too harsh on Djourou, who is still young, has played a lot of games in the first team and hasn't been bad every time, or even 50% of the time. Diaby isn't worth selling, and I think insurance pays his wages while he is injured, so it doesn't hurt waiting to see how he turns out. Gervinho seems a better bet than Arshavin (and I agree it is one or other that has to go)
Gervinho?! really?! he's only just signed for us, and has been great! Chamakh, Bendtner, squillaci, arshavin, almunia, Vela, And loan out Diaby and hope he can get some decent game time, and depending on denilsons ability to return (if the fans get on his back again) i'd keep him
Chamakh, Bendtner, Squillaci, Arshavin, Almunia, Vela, Denilson. Possibly Diaby. And a shed load of Youth Players that won't make it at the Club. Possibly Djourou if Vertonghen comes in. His new contract was triggered by number of first team appearances - it wasn't that the club wanted to give him one, it was automatic. Thus he could still be sold.
I like Gervinho, he's definitely a very useful player and can take defenders on - very direct. Toledo - The reason that I'm down on Djourou is primarily his attitude. After the 8-2 humiliation he said that he felt perfectly happy and relaxed and didn't lose any sleep - awful attitude and a slap in the face to the already suffering fans. Also, apart from a decent run of games during last season's defensive crisis he hasn't done much else to warrant 50 G's a week. I may be wrong but that's just the way I see it - when it comes to passion for the club and pride in wearing the shirt he couldn't give a monkey's.
That's a good attitude for him to have really tho, yes it was a **** result, but no point dwelling on it, it's over and time to look onto the next match, dwelling on it could mean he takes that into the next match then is nervous, or lacks confidence and ****s up
Wait.... we still have Denilson? Oh BUGGER IT! Wenger really needs to give some of these players the chop, fast. I said before he is far too loyal to some players and Denilson is one of the worst examples. Maybe I was too harsh on Gervinho, his form dropped a bit before the Africa Cup of Nations, but that's no reason to forget how well he did at the start. He needs to learn to finish though. Also I'm reluctant to give up on Arsharvin.
If we could sell Djourou and Squill and buy Vertonghen, we would have sorted our defense. Keown is absolutely right when he says that our first choice defense is as good as any and that it is our subs who let us down. Djourou has been letting the club down on an alarmingly regular basis lately - sloppy play, bad positioning, unnecessary faults. I worry every time he is on the pitch. And btw Vela still can be sold for a couple of millions, no? Anyone? he has a one million dollars smile (that is his main asset though).
Think your overestimating the prices of the players your selling for a few reasons, First off none of them are top 6 standard so you'd need to sell to mid table or foreign teams and theres only a few of them who are overly wealthy. Secondly if you guys know they're ****e the rest of the world does too and won't be paying a lot if anything for them. Finally they are on massive wages and will be reluctant to move to a club who pays them less or has less of a reputation that arsenal.
Almunia, Arshavin, Bendtner, Chamakh, Diaby, Djoure, Denilson, Squilachi, and Vela all need to be shown the door.
Agree on most of the players but not on Gervinho. He's had a good first season for us and hopefully will get better, especially after the hangover from the African Nations. I am reluctant on getting rid of Diaby as he has genuine quality. However, will he ever be fit enough to play for us? As for the rest, they have all shown how good they are by performing so poorly for their loaned out clubs. What happened to Vela? Is he alive? Wasn't he suppose to be good? Wenger should cut his loses and work with the "proven" players that we have and add top quality. His experiment has gone long enough and the platform has been set, so he has to target success and results now. No more "potentiial signings" for the time being....
True mate. But then again erveryone knew andy caroll and stuart downing were ****e and that they werent even close to good enough for the top 6. But liverpool paid £55m for those 2 <luagh>
Yep, can't believe we're still paying the wages of RoSICKy and Van 'Made Out of Glass' Persie. Never on the pitch. Always on the treatment table. Useless.
Yep, I think overall I can agree with that. I wasn't serious about Gervinho, but it's either him or Arsharvin, and Gervinho probably has more potential at his age. Diaby does have genuine quality 10% of the time. The other 90% is not just when he's injured or unfit though. For starters even within the same game the inconsistency arises. Most games though he is terrible the whole way through (fit or not), which is why he has to go. Too many seasons have ticked by with no improvement whatsoever. Like Djourou I cringe every time Diaby gets on the pitch. Usually this is because we concede goals soon after... Having said that, up until a few games ago I would have said to get rid of Rosicky. I find it difficult to understand how Rosicky can suddenly be playing so much better. It suggests a confidence issue, which unfortunately suggests he could lapse back into being rubbish...
