The owners of their ground are people with an interest in sport (however deluded they may be). Our owners are only interested in politics. Their owners understand sport. The owners of the circle understand nothing except for satisfying a handful of voters who keep them in power. Need we speculate anymore, but the solution is obvious - get it out of non-commercial ownership!
I've been told that the reason our pitch is so boggish is because of the lack of sunlight kissing it because of the West stand. That doesn't explain why it's been better in previous seasons. In short, I don't ****ing know. But it's doing us no good, that's for sure!
The SMC run the stadium, so it hasn't really got anything to do with the council. I think the answer is obvious, get a new groundsman, ours is evidently ****.
maintenance and how much money is invested in its up keep. i dread to think how the rest of the ground might look in a few years if we leave its maintenance to the ground's present owners. just saying like!!!!
SMC run the stadium on behalf of it's owners, the council. they hold the purse strings. the council should sell the stadium, reduce the rates, get rid of some more over-paid unrequired council workers and stick to cleaning roads, keeping street lights on, digging graves and what the local corpo should do.
I don't know which part of it you were wanting to comment on, but we're allowed where it's related to the club, such as the stadium ownership issue.
I know what you are saying, but that isn't the point, at least the point of this thread as I intended. I want to know why our pitch is not in the same state as Wigan's. It's obviously not to do with rugby, much as we would all like to blame the egg chasers. Another strange thing is the pitch is significantly worse this season than it has been in previous seasons (bad as it was then). Why is that then? The Sun's orbit hasn't changed vector recently has it? Has the West Stand grown this year? These are the kinds of questions I would like the club to answer as well as a proposal as to what is to be done.
On the one hand I don't think the pitch is any worse than in previous years. We just have a much more ball on the deck passing dependent game than we used to so it's affecting us more, and before last year we had 2 years of seeing PL pitches week in week out where clubs have the money to spend hundreds of thousands on a new pitch whenever they need to (didn't Man U have 3 new pitches one season?) so we've got used to a higher standard being the norm. On the other hand, the last two years we've had serious snow fall and quite cold winters, this year has been quite mild. I don't know why it would, but has having the undersoil heating on more to combat the cold weather in previous years maybe helped the pitch in some way, so this year when it's not been on as much it hasn't received what ever the benefit was?
In the last few weeks on TV i have seen the Reading pitch look great and yesterday was watching the Hudds v Cas game and that pitch also lood in good condition! How many other grounds have Football and Rugby on them and what are there pitch like?
If we got some of those lamps we could ask Whitmore to contribute as well. EDIT: And sign Geo back knowing we could play him all year round.
