Genuine question here... Why do we grieve people based on the media attention they receive? Surely, the not 606 'mopers' as some call them, know that good people die every day for various reasons. I very rarely see anyone posting and creating threads highlighting their thoughts and prayers with people who have died but not received the same media attention. I am in no way condoning the ridiculing of these people, however it seems that every time someone famous dies the sincerity card comes out. I dont see why we should pick and choose who we pray for and grieve. I think thats why the controversial bunch feel the need to post rude comments and jokes. I'm in the neutral corner... If someone dies, so be it, no need to create a big fuss. P.S. I am aware that no-one (famous) has died today.
I agree. Bloke falls over unconscious, receives extended treatment and is taken to hospital...not good at all, but not the worst case scenario, but the fact it is a sportsman and is on TV inflates it massively. To be honest I had absolutely no idea who he was when I saw he headline on the BBC. All of a sudden all eyes are on GC to see if anyone "steps out of line" when no one really knows the facts, and as it transpires he has pulled through for now, and hopefully makes a recovery. There's been a load of abuse swapped and for what? .
I had an acquittance who died when I was much younger who was frankly a complete arsehole. He died after he bullied someone into letting him have a go on his motorbike while he was off his head, and then crashed into a fence. As tragic as the situation was I couldn't believe the amount of people who didn't actually like him come out in support of him, as if he was a stand up guy - when he was a ****er. I certainly did not wish what happened to happen but the fact that he died did not change my opinion of him when he was alive.
100% I know some things are said on GC that I dont really agree with but you gotta expect that on an online anonymous forum Over inflated hype and media attention often ends up being the but of all jokes
I had heard of him, he was well respected in the game. When a football player gets injured like that, in English football, it was always bound to be a massive story. It's never happened before in a high profile English match. As for the thread, famous people die, they get a **** load of publicity, it's what happens, because more people know about them, people don't know anything about joe bloggs from crawley gets a pike through the head (admittedly that scenario might actually) so they can't react as they do when someone famous dies.
I hate that Mick... I know a lot of ****s who have died and people say things like "he was the nicest guy you were ever likely to meet" etc etc... all bullshit. In this case, Muamba seems like a good guy but he's not the only person ever to experience this type of thing. However, we all jump through the hoop and offer our sympathies etc because the media say so which annoys me a little
Fair comment But if people don't give a ****, then they should be allowed to say as much as those who do.
I would ask the question in a different way, A thread was started today with people saying that they felt it was not the time for jokes, mainly because we had no idea if the guy was dead or alive, out of respect. Anyone come give an opinion and say well, maybe we should make jokes but I will go with the flow or just keep out. Why do people choose to word things to cause conflict? Why when Toby wrote a tag that IMO was written to cause offence so deleted did he ignore my request not to do it again? Why do some people jump on any bandwagon to stir up trouble then complain when trouble is caused? Despite what some may think I had no wish to be on GC today, my team have had a good day and I was enjoying talking about it. Some people just like to push then complain when they push to far and get and force a ban.
Syd - i think there is always going to be the thoughts and prayers squad and the ridicule and mickey taking squad. In my opinion, neither are right and neither are wrong, they are all entitled to their view of the situation. If one says one thing, it is inevidible that the other will react and create an argument e.g. If the thoughts and prayers squad write something like "Dont say nuthin about Muamba cuz we dont know if he's dead or not", this will provoke a reaction from the ridicule and mickey taking squad. In terms of bans etc and what happened from a mod point of view, I need not get involved as this does not concern me
Its all mock outrage and mock sympathy if you ask me. Some ****s on here showing outrage but have PM'd pictures of dead afghani's/Iraqi's Same with football fans. Scousers sing Munich songs, but are outraged at hillsborough. Mancs laugh at hillsborough and heysel jokes but are outraged at Munich songs Then you get the whole gary speed thing, which is sad for his family but HE didnt deserve sympathy. Hius burial was hypocricy too. The church doesnt recognise gay marriage but last I checked suicide shouldnt get a service either. Its all a load of bull. As for the likes of Toby (save the world and all that)
I was on my mate's Facebook earlier and talking about the City result today, when some random puff from Darn Sarf came on and lambasted us for "talking about football at a time like this", before adding "thoughts and prayers to Muamba and his family". If I ever met the ****, I'd gouge out his eyes with a spork.
