Hello and welcome to the official Not606 match thread for Sunday's F.A Cup quarter-final between Liverpool & Stoke City. The game is to be played at Anfield and will kick-off at 4PM. ITV1 will be showing the game (Build-up begins at 3.30PM) and BBC Radio Five Live will have the radio rights to the game.

    Preview.

So here we are again. This is the fourth time Stoke & Liverpool have met this season and a place in the semi-finals and a place at Wembley are at stake. In the three games these two sides have played against each other, Stoke have won 1, Liverpool have won 1 and there has been 1 draw. So this season, both sides have been evenly matched when we have played each other.

The home side, Liverpool, have had a mixed season. Currently sitting 7th in the Premier League, we have been consistently inconsistent and this has all but ended the chances of a Champions League place. Putting the ball in the back of net has been the main problem in the league with just 33 goals scored so far this season in the league.

However, the cups have been a different story for Liverpool this season. With Liverpool having no European competition this season. the focus was fully on the two domestic cups. Liverpool ended their six-year trophy drought with a Carling Cup victory and are still going strong in the F.A Cup. With goals being an issue in the league, they certainly haven't in the F.A Cup. So far, we have played Oldham Athletic, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion. In these games, Liverpool have scored 13 goals (5 against Oldham, 2 against United & 6 against Brighton) and conceded just three.

Liverpool have put out strong sides in each round of the competition so far and that indicates how seriously Kenny Dalglish is taking the domestic cups. With another strong side expected to be put out by Kenny, it will show that Dalglish wants another trip to Wembley!

The away side, Stoke City, have had another good season. Under the stewardship of Tony Pulis, Stoke lie 13th in the Premier League but are only 1 point off Sunderland in 8th. Stoke have enjoyed some good results this season (Beating Liverpool 1-0 and a 2-1 win over Spurs) but there also has been disappointing results along the way. (Being beaten 4-0 by Sunderland and a 5-0 loss at Bolton)

As with Liverpool, Stoke have enjoyed their cup competitions this season. After losing to Manchester City in the final of last season's F.A Cup, they gained a Europa League slot due to City qualifying for the Champions League. This gave Stoke European football just 5 years after being promoted to the Premier League. Stoke got through the group stages but were knocked out by Spanish giants Valencia.

Stoke's form in the F.A Cup has been better. Three wins (Over Gillingham, Derby County & Crawley Town) and 7 goals scored and just the one conceded. Despite all of these teams being lower league, Stoke would have to have been on the top of their game to avoid being on the end of an upset and Stoke did a professional job in all of them.

With Pulis having rested players for this game, it shows that Pulis wants another trip to Wembley.

Both sides taking this competition seriously, it should make for a great game!

About time, you lazy hole !:1980_boogie_down:

My concerns tomorrow is that the likes of Shawcross, will happily spend the day mopping up absolutely anything the likes of Downing, Adam and Henderson maybe able to create. This is not a game to make use of width, this is a game for Gerrard and Suarez to terrorise the defence from head on. I don't know about using Carroll, as I don't think he will get any service.

The other question is Carra or Coates again? I think Coates, as I don't think Stoke will get forward that much, but if and when they do, I don't want to see Carra barking orders at everyone else, but being left for dead himself.

    not sure about this game....
we all know that stoke are no pushovers, so a tough, physical game is what it'll be. i just hope we can match the physicality then turn on a bit of magic to get a couple of goals. i also think that this is a game for andy carroll and luis suarez to continue to build their partnership and shine.

    2-0 to liverpool. :emoticon-0100-smile

    nice thread chris.

    Cheers Bow!

Does it need to be stuck though?

The amount of comments we usually get on the match threads means it stays near the top of the page most of time anyway.

Just my view though. Ain't too bothered either way.

I am looking at tomorrow as a win- win situation for Stoke.
If we do beat the reds, we have a trip to Wembley , and if we lose (depending on the manner of defeat), Pulis may be getting closer to the exit door than he thinks.
We have yet to score at Anfield in the Prem, and despite Pulis's claims to it being a potentially open game, he no doubt has already decided on an 11 man be3hind the ball approach and hope to sneak a goal from a set piece - the only way we seem to be capable of scoring these days.
Under normal circumstances, I would have been happy with any Stoke Manager who had obtained two draws out of 4 vists to Anfield, burt Pulis will use the defensive tactics that obtained us a point as the blue print for the way to approach the game.
I am bringing my two lads to the game as they have never been to Anfield before, and from our point of view, I hope that we at least try and attack when we have the ball - it is more likely that Crouch will spend 90 minutes on his own, while we defend and hope for a replay.
I hate TP's stubborness, his tactics, and the way he treats any player who has an ounce of attacking ability - hopefully tomorrow he will change the habits of a lifetime and give us away fans something to cheer.

Swervy, I hope you enjoy the day tomorrow, and that we do manage to come away with a draw. However, like you and numerous other Stoke fans, I think he will set-up defensively and try to hold them for a replay. I doubt he will change his policy and attack Liverpool. If that is the case then we could be in for a tough game. I know Liverpool have drawn more home games this season than they would have liked but if Gerrard has another blinder then I fear that our FA Cup will be over by tomorrow evening. Anyway I hope it's a cracking cup-tie and that Stoke do try to play in their opponents half more than they usually do away from home.

Can't argue with either of the two Stoke fans above me to be honest.

Pulis is the most negative minded Manager in history when it comes to playing away from home. He's talking in the local press quote " we'll go there looking to win the game" I will pick a team I think will get us a result" WELL Mr P that usually means we have what we hold before K.O. and keep it, i.e. a draw.

I HOPE we actually go for the win on Sunday and SHOULD Mr P do just that, I will eat his Baseball Cap.

Said this a 100 times before. PLEASE Tony Pulls PICK an attacking side and let's have a right go a actually TRYING to WIN the game.

    Thanks in advance <whistle>

That said, I EXPECT us to get well and truly hammered either way hope I'm wrong though. Afterwhich GOOD LUCK to Liverpool F.C.

    Looking forward to this game
I see this being a tough game against Stoke like mentioned they are no push over but if we can get an early goal then that would be the difference +with it being at home in front of our home support like the other night that will spur our lads on to win this 1

    BRING IT ON
