I wouldn't want Gerrard back. He was decent for the time but isn't nearly on the same level as Hobbs & Chester. Not the sort of player you want sitting in the background not getting a game.
Wherever Gerrard does go next, I'm sure that securing first team football(or at least a decent chance of it), will be his main priority. Which is why he's unlikely to come to us.
Why would Gerrard want to go from being a back-up CB at Cardiff to a back-up CB at Hull? Unless we went up. I think there are many teams in this league he could get in, but we are not one of them. As for this 3 CB's with wing-backs thing, it wont happen. Would mean dropping one of the two holding midfielders, which Barmby wont do. I doubt he'll ever not start 4-2-3-1 in a league game. You said you agree that we wont pay anything more than £750K for Mannone yet you predicted a fee of between £2-3 million?
Guess we shall all have to wait on Gerrard then in the summer and what happens. As for Vito fee. I would pay £2/3 million for him if it could be spread over 3 years say. But as others have posted and as Arsenal want rid of him he may well go on the cheap. Just saying like. Again we shall find out in the summer. Every footballer wants to play first team football but some have to bide there time. What Gerrard offers is a quality player on a FREE transfer. Thats not to be dismissed.
There are plenty of teams who'd have him in their starting XI. Wonder what Gerrard's wages are like, considering Barmby rates Coops pretty highly I can't see it.

Great news. If Arsenal will let him go on the cheap then so much better. But get him signed up regardless. Gerrard on a Free and with Cooper we would have 4 quality centre backs. for next season. Vito will be agreat signing if they can pull it off, just hope they are not showing their hand to early, which could put up the price.
If we don't go up, I'd say the likelihood that we can keep hold of Chester diminishes significantly. I can see Chester playing in the Premier league next season, whether we go up or not. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Gerrard just yet.
