After today for me Migg is the no.1. That double save today kept us in the game and was superb, world class even. Its not the first time he has been solely responsible for stopping is losing a game. I take my hat off to the lad superb.
i think that he has improved since he got the mask off... bentner said in an interview the mask restricts vision
Getting stronger too. I recall a punch out under great pressure and the Everton bloke ended up on the deck. He's not a push over any more (literally)
Aye, top notch Mig was today. Good punch off the line too when he caught the Everton lad as well as the ball.
Finally some recognition for the lad! i rate him very highly for a youngster, and today proved how good he really is.
becoming a great shot stopper but still needs to command the box more . the punch needed to be higher and not down into the box but as said still a young lad who can only get better with experience
Great double save and becoming a very good keeper who I do really like; but still 2 big problems to his game. He doesnt command his box well enough (yet) and his distribution is appauling. Every lump up field was straight to an Everton player.
For a keeper, he's a child. Distribution is still poor (but slowly, slowly improving), every other aspect is rapidly improving. He's going to be world class.
For a few years now we have been rubbish against teams who lump it big in to the box as we have never had a keeper who is a commanding presence in his area - for me Mig is still not that man yet but there are some encouraging signs. He is gettng a good run n the team and with days like today he is only going to get more confdent and if he can improve that part of his game he could be our number 1 for many years to come
It was a fantastic save from Heitinga's header. And a good blk frm the Jelavic rebound though morefor him getting up quickly etc rather the the actual save.
"we don't need no water, let the...................." Mig is the reason we are in todays draw.............
MARTIN O'NEILL hailed Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet as the new Jim Montgomery after his brilliant double save at Goodison. First the Belgian keeper leapt to his right to stop Johnny Heitinga's header. Then he got to his feet to block the rebound from Nikica Jelavic. It was incredibly similar to Black Cats legend Montgomery's heroics in the 1973 FA Cup final against Leeds, when he pulled off an outstanding double stop from Trevor Cherry and Peter Lorimer in a famous 1-0 win — the last time Sunderland won the competition. Sunderland boss O'Neill said: "It was a world-class stop from Heitinga as, from where I was standing, the ball was clearly going in. It was a certain goal. And then to still get up and save the follow up was smashing. "Jimmy made two outstanding saves and Simon has done the same today. "But the saves Jimmy made saw Sunderland eventually win the cup — we're a million miles from that." .................................................. Well it was a good save, and not forgetting his pen save against the mags................
Given the time of it, the situation and what was actually at stake, that's one the best double saves ever for us. If we actually make the semi and final, that is a defining moment imo and one that will grow in importance as the years roll by. It was a magnificant first save but a true instinctive second one. Has the lad come of age? You'd better believe it. A penalty save at the sports direct and now a double last gasp save in the FA Cup quarter final at Goodison? As Cloughie himself might have said, well played young man.
