Got to say I have missed all those other times people have been pulled up for using it.

Also what are the other phrases?

I've said several times that people using the word today are probably unaware of the original reason why it was used as an insult. I couldnt have made that clearer. Do you need help with it?

As the 2 phrases highlighted on here today have been used on this thread (and other threads) without comment until today I find this 'outrage' somewhat difficult to understand. Can you explain why it has not been commented on before now if it has been felt to be so offensive?

Just to avoid further misunderstanding this is a genuine question and not just a wind-up

Yea, go on, spell it out, tell us why it is offensive, then we will be educated, can stop using it, and move on<ok>

I second that. It is unsubstantiated - and had been used time and time again without prior comment.

Quick Google search, appears it does have offensive conotations:

The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "Man u" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"Man U Man U went on a plane Man U Man U never came back again"

    and..

"Man U Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich")

ok now u are never gonna stop using this short form.. Source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090505135503AAREA4k

The fact that United fans in all my life that I have met have never mentioned it, says a lot.

However it does seem to have originally been used in a negative context and thus should not be used.

My apologies, I haven't been posting on here for very long, prior to joining the board I also found it offensive. I am a bit of a Man Utd geek and take in everything I can about my club, this is something that Busby era fans have shared with me.

Well they were called Man u a long time before the disaster, hence the sicko's using the term in the first place.
