Sure, but you have to bear in mind that Harry's reputation wasn't that great until he came to Spurs. No way would he have even been considered as England manager a few years ago.
Any fan with a clue can see Moyes has done a great job at everton over the years and with the finances over that kind of period a lot of managers may have seen them down to the championship as it gets stale. Moyes keeps them in there every year with scant resources and when they chance on a Rooney, sold form under his feet in no time. I don't like the guy tbh but he is a very good manager He plays in a way that gets what Everton need with what they have. In the end they would have overtaken Liverpool if they won at Anfield. I think you lot would not have lost your last 3 under a manager like moyes with the players ye have
I think the higher up the league you go the more you have to allow talented players to do the things that win you football matches, which isn't always sticking to the disciplined game plan. I think that's what Hodgson found at Liverpool. It's easy to organise a bunch of average players. They know they can't mix things up so they stick to the simple game but it's harder with the very best. You have to allow them to fly. If you don't, they get frustrated and their heads go down. I think Moyes would find it very difficult at a club like Spurs.
Good point efb and could well explain the very poor performance by England at the WC under Capello. Look at the underachieving from Lampard, Rooney, Gerrard. When have they replicated their club form for England? During Robson's tenure and the 1990 WC it was after strong input from the players to him that performances improved. See what Roy Keane has to say in his Autobiography about Macathy. Look at Ramos and what he did to the team, and the transformation when Harry 'freed' them up. Yes, there is a lot of truth in what you say efb. We need Harry or someone similar not a control freak.
When have Everton had the players to play free flowing football...quite often imo. Moyes is a defence first manager I'd say, and all this 'great job on a budget', yeah, and? When he's had money he's bought some right lemons. Top club jobs have come and gone and no-one has ever tried to tap up Moyes, there has to be a reason for this within football circles. He is a very good manager at the level he is, we're above that imo.
So who would we suggest then? as i see Moyes coming from the same school of thought as Mourinhio....Guardiola would never happen...Wenger anyone? i would! as in have him as a manager! Brenden Rodgers? could he handle Spurs? am not sure if it isnt a too bigger step too soon for him? i dont know...
we cant compare anything to Redknapp..diffrent approaches work....our next man must have more tactical nous than Harry but the same kind of man management to some extent.
Another thing you can say about Moyes is that when Everton play the top teams, he doesn't set them up to primarily negate the opponent's tactics like we've done recently against Arsenal and Man Utd (Or even Stevenage, FFS), which is what cost us more than anything else in those games.
Not easy to find. If Harry would just hand over a bit more of the tactical side to somebody who knows a bit more about it, we would not have lost three in a row.
Well I wouldn't suggest anyone, because HR hasn't left yet, and I'm not convinced 100% that he will either. If Harry stays he'll grow into the job like anyone else. Even Ferguson still makes mistakes and his side has bad spells. As disappointed as I was over the recent slump, head now says the manager we have has had a Spurs team playing the best football I've seen, obviously such a high standard cannot be maintained week in week out. I still feel our squad is deemed better than it actually is and there's still work to do there. Too many of our players aren't versatile enough, fairly rigid in what they do best, which is why we struggle to replace them, because the cover is exactly the same.
Yeah, I 've always thought Harry was a fantastic man manager, but a tactical genius, he ain't. I just wish he would realisevthatM
Redknapp's done an excellent job for us so far Notso, but he's repeating last season's mistakes, unfortunately. I'd suggest that he's actually struggled when we don't have identical cover, rather than when we do. He changes the whole system when some players are absent and it's cost us. He seems unwilling to see past a group of about 16 players, for some reason.
For some reason??? because outside of that number the rest have such severe limitations, we still have players Harry didn't sign don't forget. Like I said above, our squad isn't as good as people make out, its far from complete. I'm not going down the rotation with this squad road again.
I only said there's room for improvement Luke, you don't miss players who are out like we do. You have effective cover everywhere, you have 3 either wing players, we do not have one. This all boils to what I said ages ago, our first say 12/13 players are a match for anyone on our day, after that, the gap in 'allround' quality is quite big.
