We're solely flying the English flag over Europe tonight. Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Birmingham City, Fulham, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur have all been knocked out. All before the quarter-final stage of any European competition. First time Chelsea are the only English side in the final eight of the Champions League. Apparently we have none? Whatever. We have plenty, and are making more as we go along...only three teams had EVER overturned the deficit we did last night. Those with history can sit and watch as we add to ours. In fairness there were lots of good posters last night on our board supporting us, and for the right reasons as well.
Just shows that we still have a good squad of players. Just a pity we didn't have a manager capable of bringing the best out of them. May have had a title challenge because, as european results show, the PL isn't that special.
What suprises me (and granted they may still win the league this year) is that United were frankly embarrassed in last years final and Fergie spent 50 million in the summer without addressing their key weakness in midfield. This year they got knocked out of a weak C.L group and didn't even make qtrs in Europa despite fielding strong sides. Maybe Fergie isn't quite the genius he is said to be, especially in Europe.
Blueman, we have had 4 managers who couldn't bring the best out of them, because they're not prepared to give their best. Don't be seduced by the Napoli game, which only showed what devious sods they are. They can play all right. It's Abramovich tearing strips off them and telling them their contracts need to be earned that has turned these ring pieces around. Lets hope the penny has dropped and they give 100% in every game, for every manager in the future. We could and should be 3rd at worst in the PL if these ring pieces had been honest.
Not a case of being seduced by the Napoli game. It's just frustrating that we are looking to finish top 4 in a very average league.
I know I meant it more in surprise that only 3 teams have overturned a 2 goal deficit, I actually didn't know that
