This post is off-topic, but if you live in Southampton it may be of relevance to you. The Saul Zaentz Company is threatening the Hobbit Pub on Bevois Valley with having to rebrand its name. You can read the full story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-17350103

Now I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between a pub and a movie. SZC may own the brand rights to the movie, but they sure as hell don't have any moral obligation to tell the owner of pub of more than twenty years standing to change their name.

It is though. We have a severe drinking problem in this country. People need to be drunk to have fun it seems, the only country in the world where that really applies. Hence when i'm in Ibiza this summer our Villa is no where near any of the English there looking for a filthy piss up.

According to the Echo website, the Saul Zaentz company will let them keep the name if they pay $100 a year in naming rights. Is a big firm like that so hard up they need £65 to come from a amall pub that has had this name for over 20 years. Shocking.

England is not full of drunks, being a multi cultural society that has a number of people living here where alcohol is strictly forbidden due to their religion makes that statement slightly wrong! Also pubs having to shut is not a good thing, the beer industry contributes billions to the economy and employs millions.

    Because of facts,friends,personal experiences...
It's embarrassing how out of control people can get over there,it's not just young people that drink until they pass out.

Well i for one have worked in the pub trade for many years including running one for 8 years and yes a minority of people do get drunk and then become a pain......but nowdays people dont need a drink to become a pain in the backside...they can do it sober...

It's not a precursor. Not everyone gets ridiculously drunk regularly on nights out. It does happen though! It's nothing that doesn't happen in holiday hot-spots such as say, Portugal...

I do find it funny how you attempt to comment on everything to do with Saints and Home Affairs, to people living in it or who went to the games themselves.

Not only that but 20 people can be saying a player looks lively and you may slam them down. Just saying.

This thread took a strange turn. Back to the topic...seems wrong to me that this company is trying to enforce a name change on a pub after 20 years. I would understand if it had just opened as it infringes some form of copyright, but too late now surely.
Does anyone remember when the Stringfellows nightclub tried to sue Stringfellows chips...the judge in that case said he felt that most people could tell the difference between a nightclub and a chip.

Of course I have, but not every weekend. Plus the state that many people get themselves into is truly disgusting.
