Pardew was talking a few weeks ago about sigining players for next season that can play in more than one position. Jason Puncheon being a good example of this as he can play on either wing.

My answer to signing a player of utility mould would be Steven Whittaker from Rangers. Can play very well in either full back position and is a quality midfielder whether deployed left, right or centre. His goalscoring record is good for the type of player he is and he is not stranger to a spectacular goal either. Finally he would cost £1.5-2mill max as Rangers are desperate for any cash (they sold Kenny Miller for 400k)

What do you guys think and who would you sign as our utility man for next year??

Haven't we learned our lesson from signing utility players from lower leagues?

If we don't sign a few good strikers in the summer then I just might explode with furious anger and profane like a fother mucker.

Whittaker and Perch in the same breath is a complete insult to the former. The SPL isnt the best league granted but Whittaker performs everytime against Celtic and has done well in Europe (some vital goals and performances when the Gers got to the Uefa cup final) and also has been one of Scotlands most consistent performers over the last few years, especially in the bigger games.

Long shot but what about Zhirkov from Chelsea?
Can play anywhere on the left.

Perch was good at the top end Championship which is higher than the SPL in my opinion and he has performed well against better teams than Whittaker, but they are both ****e!

I can't believe someone has spent time creating that. <laugh>

In my opinion you should sign a player with a specific role in mind, if they have the versatility to fill in other areas during a crisis then great, but you shouldn't sign a player with no clear idea of where they'll be playing; what would you ask them to do in training?

Whittaker seems to have done well for Rangers this season in the SPL and did play a blinder against Celtic on Sunday.

Whether or not he'd be good in the EPL remains to be seen. I'm not sure he'd make the grade.

Having said that - just look at young McCarthy who came from Hamilton to Wigan. I know they're in the relegation stooshy but he looks a diamond in the rough.

I can't say Whittaker has really shown up on my radar, so I can't judge whether he would be good enough. Pards has definitely said he is looking for some utility players though so we may end up getting somebody like him. Hopefully Carr will find us some gem playing in europe somewhere.
