So heres a coversation i had on another site, that all the knockers could not give me an answer to.... I've read loads of posts where people slate the Sun, Mail etc as lazy journo's; crap reporters; bulls**ters etc..... SO Where do you get your information from? I dont trust the Net as i saw a Jet land on a truck not long ago and utube just kills any credibility... You cant trust social media can you..1 persons view of a situation...for eg the confrontation at Euston the other day was nothing of the sort, but if you read twiiter you'd think it wwas all out war. Word of mouth, do you rely on your Chelsea, arse, Spuds supporting friends to give you a balanced honest opinion? Do you reply on "people like me"on these forums to be honest and impartial..... the BBC/ ITV/ C4? the only answer i got was that someone posted everything on twitter was gospel....stupid So, How do we know our papers are any more full of it than any other media device (with regards to sport)......? Over to you....Discuss
Where have you been Queenslander!, the only person we can trust 100% with the truth is our very own CB, don't you know it's a "done deal".
Great Question QL. Personally i've seen so many lies from papers like The Sun, Mirror etc (Things that i KNOW for sure are lies 'cos i was at the incident) that i find it very hard to believe what i read anymore. I've found most (but not all) journos I've met to be slimy scumbags who just want to sensationalise everything and who would stoop to any means possible to create a story. Believe me it's not just British Journos. I've still got a cutting from a french newspaper (L'Equipe ?) from the World Cup in 1998 that has me and a load of mates listed as 'Les Hooligans English' after the journo had plied us with beer and got us telling outragous stories that were obviously made up. Don't trust 'em...not now and not ever
Exactly. You can also tell by the number of things they say will definitely happen (and remember they have sources close to to top) ... and don't.
I don't believe anything until it's confirmed on Sky Sports News! But just think of all the debating we'd miss out on if everthing printed in the rags was gospel!
My take is, as a general rule, the broadsheets are more reliable than tabloids. That said, the tabloid journos spend more time sniffing out stories (and making them up when there aren't any) so they might catch onto things a bit quicker. I'd never take one paper at face value and would wait for others to state the same - if you see one rat scuttling then it doesn't mean anything but if you see a load running in the same direction then there probably is something there.
Ok..i agree with the journo bit...but what makes the net any more accurate? read hundreds (literally0 of ridiculos stories...and with paint, clip art and all the proper art pics......they have more op to make up stories than anyone else..... I'll go with reply No.1....Berny is the only tusted source........
I don't think the net is any more accurate, in fact it's probably a lot LESS accurate 'cos any Tom, Dick & Harry can live out their Journalistic fantasies and become a real 'fountain of knowledge'. I think it's just a matter of taking most stuff at face value and trying to sort the gems from the bulls##t (though mostly impossible to do).
This is not just true about football reporting but... Because of the way they are funded the BBC is free of commercial interference and obligations. Because of its charter it is also obliged to be apolitical. This makes it a news source that is uniquely independent perhaps more so than any other organization in the world. Contrast and compare to the scumbag owners of most of our national press (and much of the overseas press including Australia of course) that are relentlessly focused on popularist rather than factual views and where the agenda is ostentatiously led by political leanings. That's not to say that the BBC do not employ a bunch pillocks to do their football observations however...
Past 'facts' are more likely to be true than future ones! Who really knows what's gonna happen tomorrow, till it does? The 'news' is by definition something that has already happened. Anything else is guess-work at best. Rags that concentrate on opinion are little better as reliable sources of information than much of what we get on here.
I use these sorts of information purely as a guide line and try to read between the lines using my common sense and always believe in my gut instinct which is probably correct 8 out of 10 times.
its open season regarding anything that appears nowadays. We all have access to make things up as Hot Gossip ... as an early starter to tech I have to laugh now as i watch the whole thing trying to be controlled after the horse has bolted. A manager the other day opened up his new ipad2 with a hugh business corporate announcement : Look at me Look at me I have been given this ... Within 20 minutes I was being asked to train the pratt ... He then repeated everything I had taught him to everyone as his new ownership of technology ... he then went on to face time ans show off online other managers : Hi guys blah blah blah pinch point low hanging fruits ... The bullshit devices have fallen into the hands the business idiots now so expect rubbish to grow at a rate none of us will never comprehend. I am the worse and everything teched into N606 and have stepped back a couple of time and asked what the **** am i doing ... its worse than smack and we are all eating it. The books i read when i have a spare moment all suggest we are heading to a tech melt down and in fact its very trendy now to detech completely (i have in the past and to be frank you don't miss a lot ... I am back on here to have a daily dose of fun and confess I spout the biggest amount of bollocks going but i ask ... what else is there to do? I predict twitter and facebook to fall off within 5 years and most of the internet locked down within two
I dont trust any of the 3, news from the other local papers apart from the standard are more trustworthy.
WHY? are they not just journo's trying to earn a living and wiling (maybe) to print a story..no matter how true... The Southamptom Chronicle is full of it !!!lol...
The Mail has Charles Sale who is a Norwich fan and makes up lots of stories to try to rock the boat of rivals as he did last year. The Sun confirming we had a points deduction which was bollocks as usual and the standard either ignore QPR or write negative made up stuff. The mirror at least has a connection to our club and so do the locals.
It doesn't stop them reporting in a misleading way though. It's off football, but their coverage of the first student protest was nothing short of disgraceful. They spent all day reporting how the students had been well behaved, that reporters and others had been infiltrating the crowd to start trouble and the students had just turned them over to the police to get rid of them. They were also saying how the trouble in Trafalgar Square had started after one student had asked to leave the kettle to go to the toilet. They refused to let him leave so he went to the corner and went against the wall. When they threatened to arrest him he ran into the crowd, and the police responded by going into the crowd with batons waving at anyone within reach. Despite having spent the afternoon really laying into the police for their unacceptably heavy handed actions being to blame, when it got to about quarter to five, all that detail disappeared and it just became students clashed with police, making out the students had been the ones starting it all. I noticed the time because it seemed a bit too coincidental that they changed their tone just as people would be starting to leave work. *This is completely seperate to whatever went on at the subsequent riots where clearly there were groups out to make trouble that achieved it.
You're all wrong and looking at this the wrong way. we view each media in two different types - 1. Like the sound of it - Hope its true and hope to see it happen 2. Bad news and don't like the sound of it - rubbish it as lazy journalism and hope it doesn't materialise. If you want gospel try the official site or first hand accounts. Simple!!
i believe in my govement, they always get it right. over here the state govement are the best, so trust worthy
Yeah but they only report things a week after theyve happened. You can get good sources, eg the guy that was friends with QPRs lawyer in a Faurlin saga. I never trust the fail/wail/heil over anything, theres always an agenda.
