The first time I saw the lad I thought as much and have said so a few times on here. He isn't just a winger imo. His natural instinct is to get in the box and he is often the first person to react to break aways. Much in the same way that Ronaldo (I'm not saying he is as good as him before people get on my case) has gone from wide midfield to star striker over the last 5 years, I think Jimmy could in down that route as well Anyone else have similar thoughts.
Haven't seen enough of him in front of goal to be sure whether he has the finishing ability to play a more advanced role, couple of canny finishes so far mind. Better used in wide positions taking on a man and crossing in IMO.
The new Gareth bale i say, i hope!. Similar to Leighton james who i remember on the left getting past players and getting crosses in, Nicky summerbee another player.
Well according to some on here, he has no right foot......so what if a low cross comes in from the left...he'll have to shift his body all over the place.... But imo he may do well given the chance.
If needs must. I think he would do well up top. Pace, strength and an eye for goal. Defenders would struggle to handle him imo. Funny enough though. Early season I was thinking (when he was crap on the right and we had no forwards) that Elmo coud have done a job. Pace, good in the air, er, I'll stop there.............anyone agree.
I reckon that McClean could certainly do a job up front, he is big, strong, good in the air and not frightened to have a crack at goal. However, I do feel that his excellent work ethic, tracking back and tackling abilities means he is more suited to his left side of midfield/winger role..
I've got the team for the cup game saturday lads -----------------McClean----------------- McClean-McClean-McClean-McClean McClean-McClean-McClean-McClean -----------McClean--McClean---------- The Lad is a brilliant, exciting, pacey, works hard, gets goal, a realy proper idol and role model for any youngsters out there watching. Wish there was a whole team of Jimmy Mac's
But then..(according to some as he has no right foot) he will always have to cut inside on the r/w in order to cross....
Thats my point, He'll shoot when its on the right, cutting in, and cross when on the left. I've given this some thought Also, regarding his right foot, yes it may be a lot weaker than his can right for crossing etc, but everyone has a foot preference, even those that can play with, Aka, Adam Johnson
