Hopefully Leo will be able to confirm this, the number of Welsh that can speak their language fluently increases if you head from South Wales to North Wales - even if the office is in Caerdydd, Abertawe or Casnewydd (Cardiff, Swansea or Newport) you might have a problem getting someone who speaks Welsh but in Wrecsam (as you've probably guessed, Wrexham), not a problem.

No it was not the surprise but an infection that I was more vulnerable to pick up due to being over-tired. Things are just about back to normal now. As I've already mentioned, I went home from work early yesterday as I still hadn't fully recovered. My boss decided to phone me last night to check I was ok - just one problem with that as I was in the lounge and my mobile was in my bedroom. The first I knew that she was trying to get hold of me was when a paramedic rang my doorbell at 10.30 last night. My boss now has my home phone number - not sure what her husband will think about that.

I think that I could manage a <ale> as my wine stocks are somewhat depleted since the son-in-law stayed here. Still he did bring some Belgian beers with him, Cuvéé des Trolls, which is very drinkable @ 7%. All of the empties have to saved so that he can take them back to reclaim the deposit. Anyone else remember the days when you paid a deposit on bottles of fizzy pop?

When I was younger were the last few of years of it. If I remember correctly, the last company to do it were Corona, who I think are out of business (or been bought out by someone else).

Yes it was Corona, but I didn't realise how long it went on for. When I lived in Bushey we used to have a lorry come round with orangeade, lemonade, ginger beer and cream soda on it. You took your empty bottle back and didn't have to put another deposit down on a full one of course. This would have been in the 1950s and Mme. tells me that the same service was provided in Chingford where she lived.

The nearest thing I see today is the lorry that comes into our village once a month stocked with crates of wine. Each visit the driver has a different selection on board and will sample a couple of glasses with you in the hopes of a sale. How he gets through the day is amazing, but it is not so different to the drays that deliver to pubs, where it is normal for the landlord to provide a drop to keep the drivers throats wet.

I think this illustrates the point you are making, Barry

aw, well, i've walked the corridors today, and sat in the lecture theatre :)...it's a great university (though i have nothing to compare it to) but suddenly i want to be a student! lol...shame i was never clever enough! Very impressed..and definitely where Master Hornette wants to go :)

It's great to see him doing his annual end of season slide ;)

Kick 'em both out the league, i say :). DG can go to another club, or play in Wales...the Welsh shouldn't be in the English leagues...full stop! Shame they'll never get kicked out! lol

When you can Sandy, thanks so much :)

Oooh i remember the Corona man! My grandma used to have lemonade delivered!

Hope he's not considering supporting the dirty weeds though is he? Infiltrating their city spying out any decent youth talent seems worthwile then I suppose he'll definitely be doing that anyway... of the female type...good luck

Morning all - Blimey what a foggy start to the day, a real old fashioned pea-souper and I had to scrape the ice off the car!

Busy day ahead, leaving madeness early to get to The Vic to pick up some shirts for Sponsors Night tonight - another signed shirt for Little Miss W_Y. Then zooming back to bandit country to pick up Little Miss W_Y and my mate and his daughters and back to The Vic in the battle bus.

Half day tomorrow as I have orders to do some shopping for Mrs W_Y - Hobbiecraft to pick up some "bits" for her to make Little Miss W_Y's 21st party invites, Costco to stock up and Tesco! Then tomorrow evening I am back in the battle bus to Bedford to watch Bedford in the Rugby Championship play-off's - my mate's son has been called back from England U20's for this game (they are playing The Paddies at The Stoop).

    Then it's Saturday...

Spot on Barry - although in Carmarthen a lot of people speak Welsh and you hear it in the supermarket etc all the time there is much more English spoken. As you go North they are more passionate about their language and there are pockets where they will play the French game of pretending not to understand you.

We have picked up a few bits of welsh but it is not easy to learn as unlike a lot of European languages there are less "familiar hooks" to build your knowledge on. We have learnt though how to say it is raining. :)

    I know two french games.
Marry a girl and go to bed with her friends.
Put on a silly hat and invade Prussia Austria and Russia, not very successful is this game.

There's the other one - lose every war you've fought against the English in the last 900 years
